I just had my first Benlysta treatment today. Experienced no difficulty with the infusion and no reaction to the different constituents that make up this medication. The first procedue was long (three hours). It included Solu-Medrol IV to decrease allergic reactions, an hour long infusion of the drug and time afterwards to make sure I was okay. I am a little worn, but that could also be from having my in-laws visit for fived days!! The Infusion nurse said the second treatment is potentially the one people have difficulty with. Apparently, your body could recognize the medication as a foreign body and give you the Lupus symptoms that you experience during a flare. I will have that procedure on July 30th. So far so good. I am off the Imuran (have been for a week) and still on 10 mg. of Prednisone and 200 mg of Plaquenil. I am really hopeful about
this drug.....the cost absolutely blew me away. Thankful that I do have an insurance plan through work
I will keep you posted as I go through this.
