I recently started taking paxil for anxiety issues I've been having thanks to being laid off from teaching.
For the last three months before starting it I hurt constantly -everywhere. My hands got to hurting so bad I couldn't type but for a couple minutes.
A couple of days after starting the paxil my pain eased. I still hurt, but it's not as bad.
Have any of you experience a lessening of pain after starting taking a SSRI? confused

Hi Joy,

I have not experienced that, but my mom has. She has really bad osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, with pretty severe back pain associated with it. When she was on Paxil, she found that her pain was less. I wondered if by lessening her anxiety, it also made her less centered on her pain. We never could explain it. She certainly does not have the same response with her current regime of Abilify and maybe there is something about the Paxil.

When I first started Paxil I also had a reduction in pain.  My PCP (the prescribing doctor) attributed it to a reduction in anxiety, thus causing me to sleep better which helped me to refocus on my daily activities and reduce (or at least seem to reduce) the pain.  I did end up switching to a generic form of Prozac and have been on that for about 10 years.  Whatever causes the pain reduction, I hope it continues for you!
