Sorry, I couldn't open the link.
Lupus rashes vary for many. Mine looks like a bad sunburn all over my face.
Some people look like the rashes you find on the net.

Have you been told your ANA level is positive?

Welcome to HW -

It does look like a lupus butterfly rash -- but it takes a lot more than a rash to have lupus. Check out 'diagnosing lupus' link below.

Also, RA is diagnosed by a positive blood test -- so if they are using the blood test to say that's what you have they are most likely correct.

My ra factor is negative, I do have a positive Ana but they say that the levels are low. I have several other symptoms, I get terrible mouth sores, I have sun sensitivity and sometimes break out in an allergic rash, I have petechiae all over my ankles and legs, my joints swell and hurt, I have extreme fatigue, I am on plaquinol and am generally pretty well controlled but this rash showed up yesterday after being in the sun all day and now I am going through a very bad flare.

Being in the sun or in fluorescent lights does have a tendency to aggravate lupus symptoms and give us some uncomfortable symptoms. Most of us end up limiting our sun exposure - it exhausts me and makes my muscles and joints tight and sore. I also get a sun reaction rash on my arms and neck.

Even if your numbers are 'low' when we have several symptoms like you've mentioned most rheumies will treat with plaquneil and possibly prednisone. Sometimes treatment and our reactions to treatment is a huge clue in whether we have lupus or some other auto-immune disease.

Hope you feel better soon,
