Hi Everyone,

Round 4 of Benlysta just happened and I am feeling really good.  This is the longest time frame that I have had where my body seems free of the Lupus stranglehold.  I am actually comfortable calling this remission.  I am down to 5mg. of Prednisone and will be lowering to 2.5 mg in another week.  Three weeks at 2.5 and then no more Prednisone.  What a relief that will be!  So far, this new medication is working wonders for me.  I will have my first set of labs in November.  That will be the tell-tell sign for me.  If my white counts hold and liver panel holds, I will be okay....at least for now.  The other big change I made was cutting back my teaching schedule to 4 days a week.  Just having that extra day to recover from the stressors that surround my teaching job has also helped.  I would also love to hear from other folks who are taking Benlysta.

Hey Laura:

I'm so glad that the Benlysta is working for you. My Rheumy wants me to try it and see if I can get down the amount of steroids I take. They are currently trying to make arrangements so that I can start the medication. Not sure when that will happen.

Sounds like you've done great on it. Did you have any type of side effects? I read that weight gain is a problem with it. That's something I totally don't need LOL. After being on high dose steroids for over 11 year straight now, well lets just say I need to loose weight.

Glad it's working for you, keep us posted on how your labs look.

Hugs,
Barbara
