So for 4 years I have been having symptoms that come and go. Im currently having an "episode" they usually last anywhere from 2 weeks to the longest was 2 months depending if i go to the doctor or not. I have seen many doctors but they have not been able to give me an answer. I have gotten blood work done a number of times yet it comes back normal. Lupus has been mentioned by 2 different doctors but then when the blood work comes back normal it gets pushed aside and i leave with no answers. I finally gave up on trying to get answers, i was starting to feel like i was crazy and just lived with it when the symptoms showed up. That is until now, im starting to have more symptoms that are harder to deal with. Im nervous to go to the doctors because i usually end up wasting time and money for them to tell me they don't know whats wrong, take prednisone, it gets better for awhile but eventually out of the blue symptoms start up again. Something inside is telling me not to give up, im not crazy, something is wrong. I have been working up the courage to make an appointment i guess i would just like to hear from some of you guys and let me know what you think. Thank you!

Symptoms:
unexplained hives- usually starts behind my ears or on my scalp and spreads, first symptom and most bothersome, was one of my only symptoms until about a year ago, goes away when treated with steroids
rash on face- very light red and bumpy, newer symptom with in the past 6 months
fatigue-only during an episode, can not make it all day with out a nap and sometimes 2 naps in one day, i have noticed this more with in the past 2 years
joint pain- in my knees mostly my right, this one is new has been bothering me since mid Aug
headaches- almost every day, had headaches before but more often the past 2 years, some times once a week sometimes every day for more then a week and even migraines which i had never had before
light sensitivity- in my eyes with no headache or just before i get one and skin when i have hives
night sweats- has happened 3-4 times in the past year, only when other symptoms are preasnt
overall feeling of rundown

It can also be fibromyalgia....

Have you looked at the symptoms of lupus on Lupus.org? You need to meet at least 4 of the 11 symptoms. ANA is only one of them.

Meanwhile try to cover up from the sun, fluorescent lighting and halogen lights.

I found a sheet called "Lupus symptom Tracker" online. You could fill it out and take it to the doctor.

<Edited to make link live.>

Lupus is rare in men but they can have it. If you check out the videos by the Lupus Spokeswoman Christine Miserandino. I think they are on webmd but not positive.
She interviews with a man who has lupus. It took him years for the doctors to say he had lupus, because it's so rare for men to have it.

I was ANA negative for ever then one day it showed up possitive but you can have lupus with out it being postive if you have other markers and I did but they looked back at ER blood work and it was postive. It took me a year and 5 doctors to get an answer he ran ever test in the book. I was so happy to get a diagoses. You have an auto immune thing going on for sure if prednisone helps. Good luck!
