I have had an ongoing problem with scalp sores. Have not really been able to get them to clear up for the first time this year. I have noticed when I go into my bathroom which has a 6ft flourescent light, that they start to throb. I was thinking it was mold, as I am very allergic to it. Then I read that UV light is a problem with lupus. Could the light be aggravating the skin sores? Also, in the shower lately, the veins in my hands and arms turn deep blue when the hot water hits them. Again, I was thinking mold in my shower. Are these possibly lupus symptoms? Thanks for your help~

Yes the lights might be making the scores worse. I break out in church all the time because of the lights. You can buy filters for the lights. OK I'm guessing the hand and vein thing is your Lupus u most likely have Raynaud's Syndrome it causes hands and feet veins to turn purple or blue. You have inflammation from Lupus so once you hit the warm shower your blood will come to the surface we have bad circulation. Does your hand and feet turn purple when you sit? Do they get cold and then hot other times, numb? I take a baby asprine every. I thought a lot of my problems were from mold years ago. I even moved thinking I would feel better. It was all Lupus crap. This disease is not fun. Good luck.Ps Raynaud's is very common tag along with SLE lupus.

I'd change the light bulb in the bathroom. Fluorescent lights are not good for us. It's probably causing the sores in the first place.
I get sores if I go outside without my hat.

Yep, sounds like Raynauds in the hands. Make sure to discuss this with your Rheumy. There are some medicines out there to help it. You don't want to lose a finger to it.

Thank you to you both. I know what Raynauds is, but was under the impression that it was from the cold and this only seems to happen in the hot shower so I was confused. I will ask the landlord about changing out the bulb, would one of those full spectrum bulbs be any healthier for lupus? There is no other place for another light fixture other than the 6 ft one as there are mirrors over the entire vanity countertop.

 Thanks again~

Go see your doctor he might know...but it sounds like the warm water is doing something to your circulation. As for the light bulbs no fluorsent bulbs other then that... the choice is yours on what's best for you. I don't know much about bulbs sorry.

Are there other lights in the bathroom? Just leave them off if you can use the overhead lights.
They do sell the covers for the lights online though. Just google "UV filters for fluorescent lights". They had to install them in my classroom last year for me.

That is the problem and why I did not address it earlier when I learned UV is a problem. There is only a 6ft flourescent fixture and no other light and no windows in there. I know that Whole Foods use some kind of full spectrum in their overhead lights...supposed to be healthier. Do you know if they are any healthier? I know they are also used in aquariums.

Full spectrum is even more dangerous for us.
