Hi to all you Loopies out there!! I have been considering trying to eat a plant based diet to try to alleviate some of my lupus ( & other ) symptoms. Am on meds but still flaring all the time. I do understand all the necessary info re calcium, protein etc but just wanted some feedback from people who have tried this for an extended period and how they have found it has helped their Symptoms. Am really at my wits end and willing to try anything I think!!!

I've never tried it. Let us know how it goes.

Just make sure you discuss this with your doctor(s) and a nutritionist.

I'm sure it will be a struggle for me as I love food so much but I just feel so sick all the time, I am hoping to commit to a couple of weeks and hope to stay on track from there but we will see!!!!

If you read Dr Wallace's "The Lupus Book", you'll find that lupus patients in general are allergic to legumes - ie beans might increase your symptoms. I know they cause problems with me.

Just mentioning as your sources of protein may be minimal, and (at least for me) my Lupus is better when I'm eating LOTS of protein.

Thanks for that!! I am happy to hear any feedback with regards to diet as I feel like its the only thing I can really control. Will maybe try to just eat more meat, fruit and veg and less ( but not without completely ) wheat and dairy and see how that goes. Have tried to eliminate junk already, having only minimal stuff with additives etc, trying to read labels and eat as close to natural source as possible with as many things as I can. I at least feel better mentally knowing I am trying to do the right thing!!!

My advice would be to try an anti-inflammatory diet first.  Dr Weil's diet is a good place to start.  It might help and it won't hurt.
