I'm so tired of this insomnia. smhair

I've tried to turn off all lights, sounds, and use just a small low beam headlamp to read myself to sleep. I still read for hours!
I've turned on the tv to the dullest show I could find...nothing!
I try to wear myself out for the day...nothing!

I'll yawn, but can't sleep.

My doctor won't give me a sleep aid. She says take melentona. nono

I'd love to but I know it will send me into a flare.
I've done 2 benadryl on desperate nights, but I don't like waking up with a hangover that lasts all of the next day. It still takes an hour for it to knock me out. shakehead

Anybody got a sledge hammer? eyes

Are you seeing a rhuemy? If not, you need to see one. Also, if this is a rhuemy that is telling you this...take the link that I will attach at the end to her. Sounds like she needs to learn a bit more about lupus. I would also consider finding another doctor who knows a lot about lupus and has dealt with it many times.

I have also heard Zquil works wonders...maybe give that a shot?

The doctor who refused was my sleep apnea doctor.
I'm still seeing the rheumy but I don't see him until January. I'm supposed to start lyrica in January when my new insurance starts. I can't afford it without it.
Zquil is the same as benadryl (diphenhydramine).

I agree with Aimsgirl. Now I don't know much about the sleep apnea, I don't have that, but my father in law does and he has a cpap machine, are you using one?  What does your rheumy say about your lack of sleep? I once went into my GP with lack of sleep, had not slept for days and my RA was in a terrible flare, she suggested those same things, reading, melatonin etc, had tried all of that, and at my next visit I mentioned it to my rheumy and he understood right away. I would stop trying to get any assistance from the doctor who won't help and persist with your rheumy who is more likely to understand.,

I too am struggling with insomina but mine is related to the Benylsta that I'm taking.

I spoke with my PCM and Rheumy, and they both feel they can not prescribe me anything for sleep. I have two types of sleep apena, I use a VPAP machine at night with oxygen being pumped into my machine. If i only had obstructive sleep apena they would give me something, but I have central sleep apena and if I fall asleep in the chair w/o my VPAP. within 30 minutes I go into respitory arrest.

So I just sleep when I can, and just wait till early morning to go to bed. With central sleep apena my brain doesn't realize I've stopped breathing. My VPAP kinda works like a ventilator. Joy just try to sleep when you can, I always nap at some point in the day.

Hugs,
Barbara

I have central and obstructive sleep apnea like you, Barbara. I have an AVAP (automatic variable) which I use religiously.

What gets me is I don't nap in the daytime. My house is too noisy during the daytime with 3 other people here all day long. When it gets quiet is when I can sleep.
Once I'm asleep I can sleep until the house gets noisy again. It's just getting to sleep is the problem.

ps. I'm sitting here listen to my cat snore and talk in her sleep. :))
Wish I could fall asleep like that. :/
