I am so miserable, I could cry. I have been itching so bad from head to toe. I have no bumps or rash. My chest gets red and turns white if i push my finger against it...the Lupus. I have skin Lupus and there is some question wheither or not I have systemic too. I have fibromyalgia and had Hep B & C years ago. My hepatitis status is cleared now My antibodies show up not existance so Dr. says I have cleared it. THis happened over 25 years ago. My liver enzymes are normal. I thought I had gotten scabies from work at Nursing home But Dr. said no, Dermatologist said no....They said it was my Lupus but I dont know. I have tried benedryl and zrytec but nothing helps. I am also on pain meds, fentanyl and oxycodone for chronic pain. It feels like i have fallen into fiberglass. Can anyone help me? This is awful. I have been on the same meds for seven years, could they be turning on me after all this time? Thanks for any help.

I get those itch attacks after UV exposure.
Ice cold shower helps me followed by hydrocortizone cream and benadryl.

I believe it is from inflammed nerves.

Pain medications can also cause itching like you describe. I know you said you've been on them like seven years, but medications can at anytime cause a flare up. Or an allergic reaction to a drug.

Hope your docs can get to the bottom of this issue. Have your doctors done any lab work recently? I think I'd ask he/she check your SED rate, CRP, and C3, and C4 counts those may show if you currently are flaring or not. Wish you the best.

Barb, I have wondered about the pain meds. Are these all the tests I should ask for or should I get my Hep levels done too and kidney function tests? I am worried as I was diagnosed with subcutaneous lupus a few years ago. I have not found a good Rheumatologist so I will be using my GP. She wont know exactly what to run unless I specify. I am a Nursing supervisor so she allows me to sort of tell her what to order. I dont know if I should only focus on the Lupus or check it all out . I have also heard that vitamin deficiencies can cause itching. When they checked me for Systemic Lupus, I had some tests out of whack so they are not sure if it is only Subcutaneous or Systemic too. There are not too many good Lupus Dr around here. I would appreciate any advice you can give. I have to get to the bottom of this. Thanks Ps they had put me on Plaquenil but I stopped it as I had too many side effects from it..

Joy, it sort of feels like the response I get after UV rays too. But I have not been in the sun. This itching is very similar.

Florescent lights can also cause this reaction in Lupus patients, it isn't just the sun that gives us issues.

Have you tried a cortisone cream? That seems to help me if I aggravate my skin. Pretty much have constant irritation (red & bumpy) on the upper chest, but doesn't usually itch so I don't treat it.

Best wishes,

I get alot of bumps on my chest and it stays red alot. If I press on it, the red turns white for a few seconds. Haven't been under alot of fluorescent lights. I just itch alot to the point it's driving me crazy.

Also have prescribed cortisone cream. No help at all except on chest when it gets red
