Normally high energy 45 year old, early menop, high ANA+2300 1 year ago after very stressful period, typical symptoms of lupus without a diagnosis, trying to manage with diet, tend toward vegan or veggie, eat lots of beans, lentils but gaining weight and very constipated wondering if it's the right diet for me. The intensity of my exercise is much less due to extreme foot pain, much sensitivity (is this common?) I want to be normal, wondering if vegan is the right way or should I see a nutritionist. I'm feeling better and want to stay away from drugs but weight will impact my joints and I can't exercise at the same level I would like. Foot pain persists and at times unbearable. Any suggestions, going to avoid beans and legumes given my read. I do like my wine or beer, helps my cope should I cut it out completely?

Check out what is informally known as 'the lupus bible' -- "The Lupus Book" by Dr Daniel Wallace. One of the key things that struck me is that many of us with Lupus have an allergy to legumes (I believe some in particular are mentioned) I wouldn't think that depending on them as a main dietary source would be the best idea.

Personally, I've found that I feel best getting plenty of 'clean' (unprocessed) protein, vegetables, and fruits. I eat eggs, milk products, chicken, turkey & fish the most. I don't do beans, legumes, sprouts, flour or least as best I can while managing to eat out & socialize with friends.

Since we are all so different, you might want to try cutting out beans a couple weeks, see how you feel. Same with alcohol...just don't cut out too much at once or you won't know what is influencing how you feel!
