I am posting today because I don't know what I have, but am concerned that it is Lupus. I will tell the story from the beginning, and hope someone can guide me.
about 6 months ago I began to experience bad short term memory. That consisted of forgetting every day simple things, like what I was just writing, what word I needed to use, what I was working on. If I started to do or work on something, and I was distracted with something else even for a second, I forget what it is that I was doing originally.  I have also had feelings of paranoia, as if people are talking about me. This has been happening since, and I started to suspect that I was having signs of early Alzheimer's. But I let it go telling myself it must be stress. Even thought I don't have much stress, that I know of.
about 2 months ago I noticed a red mark on my cheek. It wasn't very big, and I thought it was just a pimple that would clear up. 2 weeks later it grew across the cheek to the nose, and around the eye on the other side. Again I thought that maybe I was being a hypochondriac and causing myself stress over the memory problem, which led to the redness. It has now been 2 months and the redness has spread across my nose, and over the next cheek, around the eye, and over most of my forehead. When I look online for face redness, of course I run into Malar rashes. The pictures I see online are examples of severe cases, where mine is a slighter redness as if I had a day's tan. So, things that make me worry about Lupus is the redness, mental confusion, and I have elbow pain on both arms.
I do not see any of the other symptoms listed under Lupus, such as the white fingers or chest pain. I hesitate to see the Dr. over nothing, but now I'm starting to be concerned.
about me: Male, 47 years old.
Wish I could post a pic for advice.  Does this sound like Lupus?

Lupus is generally diagnosed by having 4 of 11 symptoms, as discussed in the link "Diagnosing Lupus" below. I don't think you need to worry about lupus, but you should check in with your regular Dr to ease your concerns.

Thank You Lynwood. I think easing my concerns is probably my main problem.  :)
Every time I go into the rest room at work and see my red face I start wondering what it is. Guess I will make a doc apt to get this over with. I looked for other reasons to have this red rash, but couldn't find any other that matched. The other illnesses involved raised rashes or bumps, where this is not. I keep trying to wait it out believing that it will go away any day now, but it's been 2 months, and longer with the memory problems.
