I think I have the worst insomnia I have ever had. I can't sleep hardly at all. I have tried every over the counter sleep aid. I can't take prescription sleeping pills because I am one of those that gets the weird side effects, like walking from room to room at night without know it, buying things on the internet without knowing, etc. Doctor took me off those years ago.

I know that I have some stressors in my life right now that are causing a lot of it, but I feel like if I don't get some good sleep soon I am going to flare.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I would try again with sleeping aids -- there are lots of new meds. And there are also sleeping specialists, which didn't exist years ago.

Some Drs are prescribing meds where the original use was not even related to sleeping, but the side effect helps a person sleep.

For instance, I take Trazodone, which is really classed as an anti-depressant, but it helps me get to sleep and sleep 8 hours without horrid side effects or that hangover feeling.

You may have already tried these ideas, if I come up with anything else I'll let you know!

I read until I can't see straight. then I listen to audiobooks or music.

I'm like you, I can't take sleep aids either.

I just bought a special CD with Delta Waves hidden in sounds of ocean waves. It's very soothing. It's supposed to lull you to sleep.

I do get some benefit from the occassional sleep aid (for me it's Ambien).  But I have also had some success with some alternatives, like Valerian Root (as a tincture) and tea made with Catnip and Camomille.  With any herbal supplement, you would need to check with your Doctor first to make sure nothing would interfere with any of your prescribed drugs.  Like Joy, I will also read until I get super sleepy....that sometimes does help (unless it's a really interesting book tongue .  Deep breathing, relaxation exercises and meditation have also helped me.

Thanks for the ideas. I will try some of them. Also, I have an appointment with my dr. on Tuesday and will discuss this with her also.
