I have Ulcerative colitis. For the last month and a half I have been experiencing a pain in my left side about waist high. I have been in the hospital 10 days with this. I also had a high WBC count of up to 20,000 and fever up to 101.2. I have had a bunch of lab test and CTs. No one can find what is wrong with me. My GI will say on one visit that it is my UC and on the next visit the pain is too much for it to be my UC. He has flipped 3 times.

I have had an unexplained rash on my face that would last weeks to months. It would only be on my cheeks but I do not remember if it was on my nose to. I have joint pains but it has always been chalked up to UC. Before this problem started I had a rash on my leg for one day and it went away. I am anemic. I was also diagnosed with pleurisy right before all this started.

If I need to be checked for Lupus what do I do. Do I have my GP check me. I am going there on Wednesday. Is there a definitive blood test or is it a diagnosis of exclusion. Can you have pain outside of joints because the pain in my side is not in a joint.

Thank you.

Your GP can do rudimentary tests, but Lupus is best treated and diagnosed by a Rheumotologist. GP's in particular may tell you that ANA is a definitive blood test but it is NOT. Not quite a diagnosis of exclusion, but almost. There is a list of symptoms, and you need to exhibit at least 4 of the 11 to be diagnosed with Lupus.

My best recommendation is to check with the www.lupus.org for your closest chapter -- then check with the local group to see which Rheumies are active in the steering committee -- these are the Rheumies you should choose from.

Read the materials on the links below for more clarity and pop on back with your more specific questions.

I have been doing research and i have tons more symptoms. I have red spots on my legs, i recently had pleurisy, i have dry eyes. I cant remember the rest right now. Can it cause pain not in a joint?

It can cause muscle pains, too.

If you're having pee issues you might have a bladder infection. You can get checked out for it at the ER. You might can get them to run an ANA panel but you need to see a rheumy for diagnosis.

Are there any free clinics in your area? Like a Medlink?
