Hey everybody!!!

I went to see the Orthopedic Surgeon and I  need arthroscopic surgery to fix three tears in my meniscus. I have been hobbling around since December, went through physical therapy (which helped a little) and have modified my activity level.  Has anyone had this type of surgery before?  What can I expect?  The doctor said I would go into the hospital in the morning and go home that evening.  He figures that in 3 days I should be moving around and two weeks for complete healing.  I am having the surgery in June, right after school gets out.  Any suggestions on how to best heal and what I should be awre of???  Last time I had surgery was in 1979, so this is really relatively new for me.

Hey Laura:

Sorry to hear that you will have to have surgery, it's never fun that's for sure.

I hope your surgery goes well and you recover quickly. I would recommend that your surgeon and the anesthesiologist both speak to your Rheumy.

I know when I had my colon surgery I was given extra IV steroids prior to my surgery and some afterwards too.

Wishing you well with your surgery.

Hugs,
Barbar

Thanks for the heads-up Barbara.  I figured I would need to have my Rheumy communicate with the others.  I am a little nervous since it's been so many years since I had any kind of surgery.  Thanks for your sweet thoughts!!
