Okay, I know when you're in a flare your hair thins.
But I've got a problem with tiny sores popping out on my scalp. They start out as tiny bumps then they fester and open when I comb my hair or itch and I scratch the top off accidently. My scalp is so tender from the sores.

Do any of you get these? Also I had it all over my face but it faded away everywhere but my chin.

My head gets tender...sometimes a few sores, like small white pimples. Doesn't leave the head-hair area, though.

I usually get them around mouth and inside my mouth but haven't experienced them on scalp although I do get the hair loss. You might want to ask the pharmacist if there is a shampoo that can help!

Hi Joy,

Before I was diagnosed, I used to get those, mostly at the base of my skull.  They would sometimes itch, but more often, they were painful.  I always assumed they were pimples.  I later found out they were part of my Lupus response.  I don't seem to get them anymore.  I attribute it to the Prednisone and Plaquenil, but I don't know that for sure.

I found out it's a type of staph infection called follititis (sp?) it happens sometimes when your immune system is weak. I've been flaring off and on for about a month, so I guess that's why?
I researched it and most cases clear up on their own with keeping skin washed a lot more and rubbing antibiotics on the sores.

If it persist I have to go get some special creams from the doctor.

You can purchase Betadine (surgical scrub) from most pharmacies. Mix it 50/50 with your shampoo. My dermatologist told me that years (many years!) ago, it's always worked for me.

Thanks, but Betadine comes from shellfish. I'm allergic to shellfish. :/

Yep, folliculitis.  I still get it when I flare, but it tends to appear on my upper and inner thighs.  It is quite painful there.  Keeping the area dry helps and I sometimes have used a triple antibiotic lotion, not ointment....the one that has the pain relief in it.

Joy sorry to hear about the sores. I get them on my scalp too, matter fact I have some now.

I know you saw your Rheumy this week, what's his plan for you? He/she really needs to get you where you're not flaring up so often.

You hang in there and I hope the sores clear up real soon.

Hugs,
Barbara

I'm having serious doubts about him being as good as they say he is.

All he has ever done to me is take blood and urinalysis everytime I go. He's done no xrays, MRIs, or Cat scans. He has barely even touched me.

We mostly sit and talk about questions I have about different pains and he keeps saying that's the fibromyalgia causing that.

I'm limited in certain medication due to allergies, but still there must be something to help me.
