Hi everyone

For the past 15 years I have been diagnosed with Lupus but it is only skin lupus. Not to long ago my specialist suggested scalp injections for my hair loss. I have tried to take the Plaquenil tablets but I felt really sick in my stomach.
I already have an appointment on the 20th of August for the injections.

Has anyone had the scalp injections done? Although I am very excited that my hair might grow back, but at the same time I am very scared of the pain and the side effects (if there is any).

If there is anyone who has had the scalp injections done could please answer me these few questions:
Is it painful?
How long does it take for your hair to grow back?
Is there any side effects?
After I receive the injections, do I need to go back for anymore ?

Thank you to anyone who can help.

Welcome to HW.

I've never tried the scalp injections. Make sure to keep us updated on the progress.

Hi & Welcome,

I've never even heard of the scalp injections!

Plaquenil is best taken with food, that helps steady the stomach. It also takes a week or two to get used to it then the tummy stuff goes away.

Hi again everyone

I promised that i will keep you all updated on the scalp injections progress.

I had them done like two days ago. It wasn't that bad at all. I had to be there an hour before the injections so they could put anesthetic cream onto my scalp and then the actual injections were done very quickly, it only took about a minute.
I was really scared about the pain but to be honest there was only a little sting (like when we go for the blood test - the first little feeling when the needle goes in ) however i only felt a little sting in some areas. The doctor put the injections in around my scalp (short shots) and he wants to see me in two month time to check on the progress. There was no side effects on me and the doctor even said that he doesn't expected any unless the injections are done in large amount and very often.

I will keep you guys updated again in two months and maybe in between if I see any change to my scalp (hopefully some hair growing back)

:-)
