Hi Everyone. I've been complaining of ingrown fingernails and toenails for a couple of years now and have been treating them using a cuticle clipper to cut away the dead skin then polysporin and bandaids each night. My PC and rheumy didn't know the cause. My PC recommended a dermatologist for my daughter and me to see. The reason my PC wanted me to see her was that she was born with an autoimmune defect and is very interested in autoimmune problems.
So, my fingernails are not ingrown, they are lifting from the nail bed on the sides of each nail causing pain, inflammation and crusting on the sides. She prescribed urea cream and it's already helping. She also said if I'm willing to try a different rheumy, she knows one who is the "doctors' doctor." He only takes referrals from docs he knows and she can get me in to see him. I think I'll take her up on this for a second opinion if nothing else. I can't pass up this opportunity. Love, Butterflake
