Welcome to the lupus forum, I'm sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with MCTD, lupus, chronic pain, and fibro. Those are a bunch of painful things to have. You'll find many of us have one or more of the same conditions you have. Lots of good people here with loads of information.
I am currently taking Methotrexate injections. I'm taking 35mg injected weekly, I've been on this drug for quite sometime now. It suppress your immune system and if you're taking prednisone to help treat your MCTD and Lupus, it should help you to lower the amount of prednisone you are taking. It can have some serious side effects, but most patients adjust to it and do fine on it. Do you have any specific questions about the MTX? It will be easier to answer questions.
I've got multiple issues some life threatening at this point. The MTX hasn't allowed me to lower my steroid usage any, but again I've got several really hard things to cope with. I've dealt with lupus for 26 years now, been taking prednisone for almost 13 years every day. I've taken every single immune suppressant drug out there, except gold injections. Nothing has really worked for me, but I happen to be in the severe category of lupus. Lupus, MCTD, and UCTD can all vary from patient to patient. Some have mild cases and others have severe cases.
I would suggest you learn all that you can about your conditions, listen to your body, it knows when you need rest. If you're not happy with the Rheumy you currently have or how they are treating your disease, then get a second opinion. Try to limit the amount of stress in your life as it really affects these types of diseases.
If you have any questions as all, please ask away, someone will have an answer for you. We aren't doctors here, so we can not tell you what to do, but we can share what we've tried in the past. Please let us know how things are going with you. Come back with any questions you have about MTX or MCTD, Lupus, Fibro, we'll be happy to try to give you an answer.
Take care and hang in there, I'm hoping that you'll begin to start feeling better really soon.
