I know there are some on here that have Pulmonary Hypertension. I am having a problem today that almost feels like asthma. Whenever I get up and move around I instantly get short of breath and start coughing. If I sit down it stops. However I am now getting hoarse and feel really tired.

What do you think? Is is asthma or the pulmonary hypertension acting up. I haven't taken my Lasix in several days so that could have something to do with it.

Hi MaryAnn,
I had something similar about 10 years ago.  It got so bad that my boss at the time forced me to go the doctor.  I was so short of breath and dry coughing all of the time that I had no energy.  My brain was definitely O2 deprived.  What I had was asthma-like, but not true asthma.  Prednisone and an inhaler helped immensely.  The symptoms went away after 6 weeks, but then came back after I stopped the medication.  I have been dealing with it off and on since then, but it has never been quite as bad as the first time.  I am also taking Prednisone every day and I think it keeps some of the lung inflammation at bay.  I get worse when the weather changes or when it's really damp.  I also get triggered by smoke and strong chemical smells.  Definitely get yourself checked out.

Thanks, Laura. I am better today. I ended up having chest pains and then throwing up last night. I got a good night sleep and I feel better. I had forgotten to take my Lasix and I think it just put too much pressure on my lungs and heart. I also called my doctor and I am waiting for them to call me back.

Take care,
Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann:

I'm sorry that you weren't feeling to well and I hope that now you're doing better. I wanted to ask you what are they treating your pulmonary hypertension with?

I've been treated for my pulmonary hypertension with Viagra 3 times daily. I've been on the medication ever since I was told I had it. My breathing continued to worsen until I ended up on oxygen 24/7. I've now been on the oxygen for over 5 years now. It does help me a lot with my breathing. I have to admit that my breathing has worsen, but I still walk and manage around.

I did start pulmonary rehab over 1 1/2 years ago and it's made a huge difference for me. If you continue to have issues with your breathing, maybe your Dr would recommend pulmonary rehab for you for a short period of time. It may help you, it's just a thought.

I hope that you hear from your Dr soon and I hope that you begin to feel better really soon. If I can answer any questions about the Viagra please let me know.
