Good afternoon everyone. I am new to this support group site and was also newly diagnosed yesterday. My pains, fatigue, etc started in Nov 2013 and going to my PCP he felt it was severe anxiety disorder, depression and fibromyalgia. Finally I went to a gastro doctor who did blood work that showed my creatinine was elevated and I was sent to a nephrologist who decided to test me for lupus because of all of the other pains and issues I told him about. He came back with a diagnosis of MCTD and referred me to a rheumatologist who did another set of blood/urine tests. I received the results yesterday diagnosis positive for lupus. I feel very overwhelmed and scared. I've done a lot of research since I was first told I may have either one. THis disease is horrible and some people go through some tragic stuff. Thus far my symptoms have been chest pain, back pain, shoulder pains, side pains around rib cage, numb feelings, anxiety, severe fatigue, feeling like I have the flu that I can't shake, feeling achy and feverish. I appreciate this forums to be able to have support from people who truly understand and also get informed as well. Thanks all Peace and Blessings.

Not everyone with lupus goes through "tragic stuff", as you put it. I was diagnosed about 9 years ago after many years of believing that I had lupus. I can't say that these have been the most fun years of my life, but with the help of some fine doctors, the right meds, plenty of self care, and a good support system, I feel better today than I have in years. I also have developed a new appreciation for things that I'd always taken for granted.

I'm sorry you feel so lousy and so scared, but hopefully you have found a good rheumatologist who will walk you through this, and do take advantage of this forum. Support and understanding are critical when you have a chronic medical condition, and you'll find both here. Hang in there!

So far the worse lupus has thrown me is fatigue and pain. I hope it never gets any worse than that. I can handle that part okay.

They always point out the worse case senerios for it on those medical sites. Try not to let Dr. Google worry you too much.

Make sure to avoid things that emmit UV rays (CF bulbs, halogen lights, fluorescent lighting, and sunlight). Most of us are photosensitive and have to wear protective clothing and sunscreen. I'm very photosensitive and feel sick and weak if exposed to it.
