I am having issues.I'm 42 and live in Phoenix Arizona . I made an appointment with my doctor, have not been diagnosed. I get a really bad rash when I am in the sun. I get a butterfly rash that comes and goes, my knuckles now are red and inflamed. I am exhausted if i am in the sun. My knee joint is painful. My skin is just having issues. My ears start pealing with dry skin of and on. Now I have been researching this so I am informed with questions when I go to the doctor. I want to know if anyone has gone to just alternative therapy to deal with lupus. If so what would you recommend. I'm extremely worried as I have lived in the sun, and it seems like I can't go out in it.

Well, looks like a lot of us have read this but haven't replied. I just wanted to say that there really isn't much in the way of 'alternate therapy' that does much for systemic lupus, so... we can't share!

Yes, staying out of the sun is usually helpful for Lupus patients -- but we all tolerate the sun differently. If you are getting a rash from the sun it would make sense to me that you need to stay out of the sun. Some of us use 50+ clothing, etc. I generally do what I want in the sun but NOT between 11am-4pm.

Is the Dr you seeing a rheumotologist? These are the right Drs for Lupus!

I'm sun sensitive too and I wear sun protective clothing and a hat when outdoors. I avoid the sun as much as possible and fluorescent lights.
