So I am new here.. So hello! :-)

I am panicking a bit for two reasons.. The first being I suffer from awful anxiety disorder and panic disorder. And the second being over the past year + I have retested three times and still had a high ANA value.. 1:640 I believe. I also have an elevated ACE level. (I know that's more indicative of sarcoid though.)

Anyway; I saw a neuro over a year ago for random muscle twitches that I have had for four years now. Clean EMG and exam and blood word etc except for those two values! I am scared to death I have some terrible auto immune disease and no one knows what it is. My doctors have basically dismissed the high readings for now.. I'm doing more in depth blood work soon. But my dad also has an auto immune disease so I wonder if my readings are just naturally high? Idk!!

I'm now taking natural supplements instead of xanax for my panic disorder which makes me feel much better so I am working on that.. But in the mean time I subconsciously worry whether I have lupus or something.

Symptoms over the past years (most from anxiety): canker sores, dizziness or off balance feeling, twitching muscles everywhere!, panic attacks/hyperventilation, random pains (muscular ones not joint)

No rashes, fevers, head aches that are unusual, overwhelming fatigue etc..

Idk is this all my anxiety? Grrr frustrated and slightly scared!

Xo,
Anxious girl

A positive ANA is not a positve for lupus. You have to meet at least 4 of the 11 indicators to be diagnosed.
There are people who have a positive ANA who never shows other indicators therefor are fine.

Try to relax and not panic. Wait and see what the doctor determines. It maybe something as simple as fibro.

Right, I did know that thank you! I think my doctors are confused because I have the ANA, canker sores (but I keep telling them I've had canker sores forever from stress and think they're different from lupus sores), and other vague symptoms that could or could not be attributed to the list of 11.

I'll try not to panic over it.. I didn't know that people could have a mid range ANA and never have anything.

Thanks!

That ANA number 1:640, isn't all that high. And like couchtater pointed out, ANA is just an indicator that some auto-immune disease could be present, it does not prove anything. Check www.lupus.com for the 11 symptoms of lupus.

The more important thing is that your symptoms are being treated and that you are staying as stress-free as possible. If you are still really worried about Lupus note that it is a rheumotologist who is the expert and diagnosing and treating it, not just any ole Dr.

Keep in touch!

Hi Anxious,

May I suggest Lyme disease? I was diagnosed with Lupus 6 yrs ago but never fit the mold. The jury is still out on that I guess. My first symptom was anxiety attacks. This lines up with Lyme. So, long story short, I am now getting tested for Lyme. But it is through an LLMD who knows the exact tests to run. I might be back on this forum in a couple of weeks. We shall see, but you sound a lot like me. Hyper anxiety and not too many Lupus symptoms. Please look into it.
Just saw a LLMD. Waiting for results! Have been sick since 2008 with almost all symptoms off and on.
