I've developed horizonal lines on my fingernails and they are thinner and hurt to touch.
I've always had vertical lines for as long as I can recall. Now I've got both and it's bothering me more.

Do any of you have this ridging going on with your nails?

Hi Joy, when I'm feeling particularly crummy I generally find I get horizontal ridges on my nails. I've heard they can be caused by dehydration, nutritional needs, stress and illness. It's my understanding that when the body is stressed for any of those reasons it will show in the nails. I take it as a sign to take extra special care of myself although I usually see it after the fact.

My first rheumy always looked closely at my nails. Never knew what he was checking on as I never had any issues. Probably good to mention at your next rheumy appt. If that's not for a while, you might want to call and ask if Dr wants to see you about them.
