Oh my, where do I begin? (and I am not sure if this is Lupus related or not - not diagnosed, but y'all are great!)

Saturday, June 7th I competed in a 2k mud run. I did okay, I guess. It was pretty cool that morning and overcast. The mud and water was cold and I didn't sweat much. The next day I walked 4.5 miles with my friend (she's doing a biggest loser contest at work and has lost over 140 lbs in 12 months by diet and exercise).

By Monday my back hurt, my shoulders hurt, my neck hurt, and I had such a horrible migraine that I left work early and slept for three hours. Wednesday rolled around and I was a BEAR, but the pain seemed to ease by the weekend (thank goodness).

So last Monday (6/16) I started experiencing pain in my lower abdomen, and I figured it was period pain because I'm never regular. Ever. And it's always painful. Monday night I was in tears. It felt like my insides were being pulled down. I popped a pain pill and went to bed.

Which leads up to me passing out in the bathroom first thing Tuesday morning (6/17). Twice. I'd never passed out before... but I face planted on the bathroom rug and bruised my knee pretty well.

My husband picked me up and hauled me to the ER. After blood work, a urine sample, and a CT scan they tell me a cyst ruptured on my left ovary; I have a moderate amount of fluid floating in my abdomen; There's a 5.1 cm cyst on the right ovary; and I have a kidney infection!

Now I have to wait until 7/15 for a followup ultrasound to see what the cyst is doing. I'm still pretty tender down there. I am finally *not* dizzy anymore, but I still get so tired. My sweet Boston Terrier Daisy wouldn't leave my side for days.

Are ovarian cysts related to autoimmune disorders? And would inflammation in the kidneys show up as a 'UTI' or whatnot (I never had a fever... if anything, my temperature is usually lower)? Anyone else have ovarian cyst problems?

I have some but thankfully they have never given me any trouble. (Knock on wood)

That's scary passing out like that.

I know a few people who have had ovarian cysts - and yeah, they've passed out as well. I haven't noticed anyone with Lupus & Cysts, so my guess would be that there is not a correlation.

I hope the cyst heals well without intervention and ALL the symptoms are just cyst related and go away quickly!

I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a tough time with the ovarian cysts. I'm sure you and your hubby were freaked out with you passing out like that.

I've had lupus for 26 years now and haven't heard of it causing ovarian cysts. I know that some women just develop them and some go away on their own, while other burst. Hopefully, the one you have left will resolve itself and you'll have no more issues with it.

As for your kidney infection I'd say that you have an infection and it's not just inflammation showing up at a UTI. Not all folks get fevers with infections. I know during Christmas I was in the hospital with pneumonia both viral and bacterial and never had my temp go above 100.7. I normally run at about 96.7 so as my temp began to go up the Dr's were aware I had temp. Of course, they say a true fever isn't one until you reach 101.0 believe is what the resident said to me.

Did they give you anything to treat your kidney infection? Or did they say you have a UTI, I was kinda confused cause you mentioned both. Just take it easy and rest, let your little pal Daisy comfort and watch over you.

Hope you feel better real soon.

I get ovarian cysts pretty often but I always thought they were related to my endometriosis.

Passing out is not fun :( it is possibly the most horrible feeling ever. I'm sorry to hear you went through that and hope your cysts will heal up of their own accord. Be careful with birth control or estrogen more specifically as it can effect lupus if you have it or suspect it.

Feel better soon :)

Thank you everyone.

The pill never has really worked for me. And I also have endo.

I'm doing better every day. Just taking it easy.

I feel like you are telling my story! I have had 3 cysts removed at different times and we are currently "keeping an eye" on a cyst that comes & goes.
My doctors say lupus is not a factor with my ovaries. Im on a blood thinner so we have to watch the bleeding more carefully.
UTI~ come with lupus and sometimes you dont know its there until you need Cipro. I have become an expert at knowing the symptoms.

I could never take the pill either. It makes me a crazy person. Crazier than my good day at crazy. Which is pretty impressive on it's own ;)

Hey Blessed01, what are the tell tale signs for you? I've had a few UTIs that were a total surprise too.

Acquiesce - Now that I think about it, I remember thinking HOLY SMOKES my back HURTS in the kidney area but dismissed it as pain/pulling something from that muddy obstacle course I subjected myself to (climbing ropes, over and under things, crawling, jumping and sliding).

One doctor said I had a UTI, the other a kidney infection, and I'm not sure how to tell the difference based on the results of blood work and an urine sample that wasn't cultured... It never burned when I urinated, nor did I have a fever; a few days the week before my cyst ruptured I felt extremely fatigued and had horrible back/shoulder/neck pain along with a migraine.

And we're all a bit crazy, no?

blessed01 - The Cipro kicked my tookus. I've dealt with these darn ovarian cysts since high school *sigh* but this is the first rupture I've experienced. And I tried not to be a wimp about the pain the night before, so I guess passing out made me wave my little white flag of defeat.

Goldensundrop, it is so hard to discern what all these random pains mean most of the time! I have a new policy that I don't get it checked out unless A, I've passed out, B, it lingers for more than a week or C, death may be imminent lol. So I totally hear you on the being tough angle and dismissing things. What else can we do? Live in the ER?

Seriously, it's pretty ridiculous.

We are the good kind of crazy, that is what I tell myself :)
