I have bounced around from doc to doc. I have had several diagnosis some of which other doctors have disputed. Currently I am being treated for Lyme Disease and a Mycoplasma infection. There are many cross over symptoms between Lyme and Lupus which is further adding to the confusion. Aside from the crossovers such as chronic pain, joint swelling, fatigue and cognitive issues, I have several symptoms that are not so common in Lyme. This has lead me to believe that I also have an autoimmune disorder.

The short version of the story is that it started with pain and fatigue about a year ago and I have gotten progressively worse since then. I have several lesions on my brain that 4 MS docs can’t agree on. I did a lumbar puncture which was normal. Some of my more unusual symptoms are Optic Neuritis, Erythromelalgia which is similar to Reynaud’s, night tremors, involuntary muscle movement, muscle twitching and a disappearing reappearing rash. Also my hands mildly shake constantly. Recently my left hand wants to curly into a fist especially the pinky and ring finger. It is now stating in my right hand. It is very scary on top of all my other issues.

So I was wondering if any of these more unusual symptoms seem familiar to anyone? I know everyone is different and that we are not docs. I am just trying to find someone who can help me cope with some of these issues. I currently am trying to find a good Rheumy. I have already seen a Rheumy but it was back when I only had about 40% of my current symptoms. We did not find any ANA abnormalities at that time. He diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. While it is certainly possible, I questioned it since I am a male in my early 30s and not the most likely demographic for Fibro. Since then though I have developed many more symptoms and seen may more doctors.

If anyone has any tips for dealing with this hand issue I would greatly appreciate it. Between that and the vision problems it is becoming very difficult to do my office job.

I'm not sure.......

My hands shake when I'm flaring. I also have some brain lesions that are not MS.

If I was you I would go back to the rheumy and tell him about the new symptoms.

I'm on lyme board too. I have strange symptoms as well and have been diagnosed with lyme, fibrosis and possibly lupus. I'm not really sure how I got this sick in just a few months. I only had a few annoying symptoms to start. So I actually got tons of issues after my spinal tap. That totally brought my health down. I have numbness, hand paralysis, pain....sometimes it just doesn't seem like lyme

One thing if your health tanked after the spinal look into arachnoiditis. It's not pleasant to read about, but you could have it ruled out.

Thanks Louise. I'll check it out. My health has been on a pretty steady decline for about a year. I don't think it got any worse after the spinal tap. I basically get a new major symptom about every month two months or so. Sorry you are having such a hard time. I hope things start turig around for you soon.

Hi Akkami,

With your fingers wanting to curl into a fist, are your fingers swollen and painful? The reason I ask is I have something similar to this and my Rheumatologist has said it's Lupus related (I thought it was trigger finger at first, but it's really Lupus inflammation). It's very painful and I have had to take oral prednisone to keep the inflammation in check.

I hope you feel better soon and get some answers!

Hi Akkami,

I have very similar symptoms as you and was told I had fibro, MS, lupus etc. etc. but then told no it's not that. One doctor is convinced I have lupus but my bloodwork is coming back negative so I'm not getting the diagnosis. Another doctor things I have ehlers danlos syndrome which can apparently cause a lot of these symptoms.

Can a more severe case of rheumatoid arthritis cause your symptoms? I know one doc told me that when your joints are compromised by arthritis or other auto immune disorders your muscles have to work over time to do the work of the joints as well and that can cause severe muscle fatigue and spasticity.

Not sure if that helps at all but I certainly understand how frustrating it is not knowing why this is happening to you.

All the best!
