Hi there,

I just recently went to see a rheumatologist for my chronic muscle and joint pain that has gotten much worse over the course of 2 years. I had a ANA nucleolar pattern 1:16 and the HLA b 27 gene. currently most of my pain is in my shoulders, spine and hips. However i have also severe tendonitis and swollen elbows, wrist pain, hand pain, jaw pain ,even pain in my SKULL. I have been very tired. My first rheumatolgist dismissed my ana and just focused on the hla b 27 gene and my diagnosis was probably spondylitis. the second rheumatologist i saw that it was possible i have lupus and spondylitis both. He told me the ANA is always negative in people with only ankylosing spondylitus unless obviously more is going on. So anyways i tried to tell him i didnt have lupus but then i did look in the mirror and notice my face is always "flushed" its only recently been like this for a few months but i thought it was from being in the sun. its actually been raining here and i havent been in the sun for a month and my face still looks flushed around my nose and cheeks. And since the past month off and on i get night sweats but i havent noticed a high fever..

my question is i tested negative for all the antibodies like the DS DNA and the smith one. I tested neg on ALL my antibodies even the one for scleroderma and nucleolar pattern usually goes with scleroderma.

I did have an instance with a tick around the time i got this chronic illness but my lyme test was negative as well. im still waiting on a more sensitive lyme test to see what happens. but im so confused.

is it possible to have lupus with a nucleolar pattern? i only had my ana tested one time. Also is it possible to have lupus with none of those antibodies like the smith or DS Dna one? what else would show in my test if i had lupus? The only other thing i had is a chronically high WBC count of around 14.7 and an elevated liver enzyme.

Anyone who can help me figure this out. i am waiting on a second blood and urine test to look for lupus. the second rheumatologist kept mentioning it and i am really scared that i might have two diseases and im tired of being sick.

Lupus is not diagnosed by any single test instead it is by having at least 4 of 11 symptoms. The symptoms are:

Extreme fatigue (tiredness)
Headaches
Painful or swollen joints
Fever
Anemia (low numbers of red blood cells or hemoglobin, or low total blood volume)
Swelling (edema) in feet, legs, hands, and/or around eyes
Pain in chest on deep breathing (pleurisy)
Butterfly-shaped rash across cheeks and nose
Sun- or light-sensitivity (photosensitivity)
Hair loss
Abnormal blood clotting
Fingers turning white and/or blue when cold (Raynaud’s phenomenon)
Mouth or nose ulcers

Many of these symptoms occur in other illnesses. In fact, lupus is sometimes called "the great imitator" because its symptoms are often like the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, blood disorders, fibromyalgia, diabetes, thyroid problems, Lyme disease, and a number of heart, lung, muscle, and bone diseases.

I had a severe pain in my elbow for almost a year then it switched to my other arm for eight months.

If it's part of your body it's going to be affected sooner or later.
