Over the last few years I've developed adult acne after having nothing of the sort going when I was younger. I know that's not all that abnormal. Why it does seem abnormal to me is it's relation to an onslaught of other symptoms that lean towards lupus and a recent diagnosis of fibro. I've tried a few topical creams on it to no long term results. And I had one strange experiment that a nurse practitioner tried that should not have worked. I can't remember the name of the med, but it fought infections or something, but for the week I could take it my skin cleared. It was before anyone knew I was sick.

So, on to my question, could the acne on my face be caused by a mild rash? Has this happened to anyone who has lupus? I also want to add, I have had rashes on my face in the past from allergic reactions and know that rashes tend to form pimples.

My face stays broke out most of the time. I had terrible fat knots under my skin on my chin for a long time. I used an erthromyacin cream for a month and my chin cleared up.

Have you looked up photos of the malar rash that is characteristic of Lupus? It sometimes forms pimple-like pustules. (Often the rash is pictured as heavy dark red and purple, it does present in a much lighter tone as well.) It is across the nose just under the eyes, down into the folds of the nose.

Rashes can look so similar it is difficult to decipher a description -- since you already have questions about ANA numbers it might be a good idea to see a rheumotologist.

Also some medications can cause an acne-like reaction -- don't know what you might be taking but check on the lesser-known side effects.

Best wishes.

I've looked up the rashes online and they're very extreme pictures. I've looked really close at my face and I noticed that I have these small bumps across my nose that seem to be filled with oily puss that can't be seen from far away. I'm going to bring it up with my dermatologist when I see her this year to see if it's a rash or what. They never go away and that's what often becomes pimples.
