I've had Lupus for 14 years. I'm currently 31 years old. It seems like every 2 years or so, I have sudden onset dibilitating anxiety. One day I'm fine and then all the sudden it hits and I can't eat, work or function normally. My rheumatologist and my psychiatrist are 90% sure it's from my lupus but I'm already on every medicatikn under the sun so they both say that it has to be treated the same way with antidepressants and anti anxiety meds. This is the 3rd time in 6 years that I've had to be off work for almost 3 months because if the horrible anxiety. It gets so bad that it feels like my skin is burning. Usually after a few months and some Paxil or something it calms down and I'm a normal person again. It is seriously the strangest thing! I want to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar?? I have systemic lupus, Sjogren's, hypothyroidism and hypocomplentemic vasculitis. I take Prednisone, Cellcept, Plaquenil, Lisinopril and I receive Benlysta infusions for my lupus. Thanks, Rachel

Before Lupus, I worked for years in a fast-moving, high-tech job with tight deadlines and never had any kinds of anxiety issues. Now it seems like it pops up at the drop of a hat for such silly things as a cloudy day. Whether Lupus triggers the anxiety or if they are part & parcel of the same thing I have no idea...end up with excruciating body pain, maybe in joints, maybe muscles, maybe headache, who knows what. Maybe Fibro plays a part, they say I have that as well but who can tell the difference? lol

Anyway, from what I know it sounds like you are being treated the right way -- or at least I haven't heard of any alternatives that I can't think of that might help you. Is there anything that you can think of that might trigger these episodes? Stress at work, seasonal affective disorder (I have a horrid time mid-Nov to mid-Jan), family events, anything? Changes in exercise or eating?

I'm surprised to hear they are keeping you on Cellcept while trying the Benlysta - most folks on here who have tried Benlysta seem to have been taken off the 3 (Imuran,Cellcept,MTX) during the Benlysta infusions.

Sorry not to be of more help, keep in touch.

Thank you for your response! Yes I take Cellcept 3 times a day as well as the Benlysta infusions. My lupus had not been active for a long time and all the sudden it flared really bad last year. I was hospitalized 3 times in 2 months for scleritis of my eye, DVT and pulmonary embolism. I'm just having all kinds of fun! LOL! Well anyway, thanks for your input and take care! :)

When I was in college I remember a student from the other department who have systemic lupus. She did not finish college. A year after, I heard that she went to a lot of medical treatment and have undergone lots of blood tests . Though there the cure for this is rare, I am very thankful knowing that the condition can be controlled and the symptoms can be ease.

I noticed that I was more anxious while on prednisone. After stopping the pred it seemed to have subsided.
SLE since 2011. Currently on Imuran 100mg and Plaquenil 400 mg.
