I have been told that I have UCTD, there is no internal organ involvement (as of yet) so the diagnosis of Lupus has not been given to me. However, I now have these large non-itchy, red welts that look like hives but are not hives on random areas of my body. I've been doing some research on my own, and there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. I scheduled a dermatologist appointment next month, but I am going to try to get in earlier. I've had these things for a little over 2 weeks now and it doesn't look as if they are letting up.

Has anyone else had this issue before? confused

Also, if you were diagnosed with UCTD and these symptoms occur, does this mean it has advanced to the 'Lupus' stage?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

UCTD doesn't "advance" to Lupus, they are not linear with each other. UCTD means you have a set of symptoms (where blood work is considered a symptom) that overlaps symptoms of other auto-immune diseases. You may share some symptoms with Lupus, you may also share symptoms with other auto-immune diseases. /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoimmune_disease#Autoimmune_Diseases

What kind of Dr diagnosed the UCTD? Are you receiving any kind of treatment?

Welts can be caused by some medications, and if you are already under the care of a rheumatologist, you may want to consult the rheumy in conjunction with a dermo.

In the meantime, drink plenty of water -- it helps flush toxins from the body, and may help.

Thank you for your quick reply. I saw two rheumatologists and they both came to the same conclusion with the UCTD diagnosis. I am currently on hydroxychloroquine (1 tablet 2x's a day) and it has been helping with the joint stiffness and overall pain and fatigue.

I asked the rheumy if he thought the hive like symptoms were from the medication, but he doesn't seem to think so...

Hopefully my dermo will open up soon so I get it resolved.
