Hey Ladies:

Just wanted to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I'm suspecting I'll be spending mine in the hospital. My left foot, as you all know has been having major issues. Well, something serious is happening now and I'm due to have an MRI at 11:00.

My surgeon ordered labs on Monday when he saw me and my White Blood Count went from 8.2 to 15.6, My Sed rate went from 25 to 57, and my C-Reactive Protein went from .3 to 10.6. I know a bit high, the labs that were lower are from Nov 3, 2015.

Just got an email from the surgeon and once I've completed the MRI I'm to head straight for the ER to have Internal medicine admit me. Best case I can get with IV antibiotics and rest for a few days. Worst case, he's gonna have to open up my foot and do a debridement of the tissue in the ankle. I don't care what he does the pain is terrible and I'm not taking any dilaudid as I'm having to drive my car. Don't seem to have much help right now, getting where I need to be. Hopefully, Bill can get me to the ER later.

I'll let you all know what happens. Take care care all and I'll be in touch. Wish me luck.

Hugs
Barbara

Dr read the MRI and saw a large infected abscess right on the Achilles tendon, so Barbara will be having surgery on that later today. Because of her breathing issues & sleep apnea, it's expected that she will spend tonight in ICU. Beyond that, she will be spending a few days in the hospital.

I hate that she's going through so much. Glad that she's finally getting some help though.

Barbara called me about 11 last night, sorry I'm just getting around to posting.

The surgery went well, they took LOTS of infection out of the ankle and sent it off to the infectious disease people to culture. Rather than sew the wound up, they are using a vacuum packing on it so they can immediately tell if something goes wrong. Since she did well in surgery, she didn't have to spend the night in ICU but is on a regular ward for a few days.

Goodness gracious, that Barbara is keeping them jumping!

Seems that sometime Saturday or Sunday, Barbara had an episode where her blood pressure shot up to 235/140, yet her heart rate remained low. Long story short, she is now on the cardiac ward and they are wondering what happened.

Surgeon that did her ankle wants to look at it before they send her home, and that will not happen before Tuesday.

The culture came back and she does have something similar to MRSA, but not the bad kind of MRSA (not sure about this...but it's something that does respond to treatment.)

Barbara is still in the hospital, but things are much calmer now. Just waiting for the ankle wound to stabilize after a second surgery this morning. May be going home in 2-3 days, maybe longer. It depends on how well her infection responds to antibiotics and whether they decide on oral or IV treatment.

Thnx for passing on updates Lynnwood..

Praying these medical treatments relieve B's pain as well as infection.

And that the blood pressure episode was a one time deal.

Gentle hugs hon...

Hi Barbara. I'm so very sorry you have to go thru all this. My guess (for what it's worth) is you have vancomycin resistant Staph aureus - VRSA. I sure hope the ID docs have found a good antibiotic. I'm in my third week of fighting a resistant UTI. Nothing compared to the terrible stuff you have. Mine is just a pain when I pee :). Love You Sweetie. Donna
