Happy New Year!

My 16 yr old son was diagnosed a few days ago with type 1 diabetes. Thank god I'm already on prednisone for a short course because this momma is stressssssed out!

I posted on the diabetes board because until we meet with the dietician I don't really know what to give him to eat. I'm overwhelmed. I'm flaring. I need a hug and for someone to tell me that it's all gonna be ok. :(

It'll be okay! Millions of people live long happy successful lives with diabetes and certainly your son will be one of them.

LanieG, the diabetes moderator, is very knowledgeable and certainly can point you to the right websites to figure out what to feed till you see the Drs. She's generally on a couple of times a day.

Hang in there, Hugs.

Thanks Lynnwood, I'm just overwhelmed and his sugar is still high and it's such an adjustment!

I know we will get into a groove but right now with the injections and readings and drs calls I feel like I did when I brought him home as a newborn again! Complete with 3 am nightly sugar checks. I have 10 alarms on my phone right now to remind me of all these things.

Thanks :)
