Hope all is well. I am seeking some advice from the experts again. I have been on plaquanil for about a year now and have had extreme joint and muscle pain for over a month. My rheumy still has not given me a real diagnosis - had a positive ana but all other blood work is fine. I do have photo sensitivity and have thinning hair along with fatigue. I do have ulcerative colitis which is in remission. My rheumy is very conservative when it comes to medication. He is suggesting to put me on sulfasalazine in place of the plaquanil and lialda. I am waiting for my GI doctors approval. Any one been on this drug? Any thing I need to know about it? I don't react well to many drugs so I am nervous.

Thanks in advance.
Ulcerative Colitis (remission) on lilada
Reflux on dexilant
Recently low positive ana and now on plaquinal

I've never had that particular drug before.

I'm doing good on plaquinel and Leflunomide.

I'm not familiar with sulfasalazine, so can't help you a lot, BUT you should know that many Lupus patients are allergic to sulfa-based medications. I don't know that sulfasalazine is sulfa-based, but the name certainly makes it sound like it is!

I found this reference, which says it is most often used for ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.
