Saw my Rheumy yesterday and he doesn't believe IVIG is working at reducing the inflammation as we had hoped, so we stopping it. Since I have exhausted all other avenues available he suggested staying on Arava and adding back Cellcept. He has only done this with one other patient, but we both figure at this point it's worth a try.

My question to the group is " have any of you been on both Cellcept and Arava? And if so, how did it work for you?" I am hoping it reduces my inflammation markers and gets my disease back under control.

Cellcept was my miracle drug! But I didn't take it with Arava so I can't really help you - don't recall anyone here who's been taking both, but hopefully someone will read this who can help you out.

I do know -- he'd better be watching your liver function!! And you should make sure your water intake is good.

Thanks Lynnwood. I was doubtful anyone had tried this combo, but figured it was worth a try in asking. After 20+ years I'm used to being a guinea pig, my doctor jokes that I never seem to fit the typical mold, but hey isn't that what lupus is all about?! I did very well on Cellcept for many years, never had any issues with it. My body just seemed to become used to it after so many years I guess and it became infective. I'm hoping after being off of it for about 8 months and restarting it that it will have the effect it did years ago. As for mixing it with the Arava, I totally agree with you and watching the liver counts. I have had issues with my liver when my lupus acts up and due to other medications before so I will be hyper vigilant in assuring labs are drawn on a timely manner.

My worst nightmare was imagined when my son was diagnosed with RA and lupus NPSLE at 19. I try to live life as though everyday is a blessing, otherwise it would be hard to put one foot in front of the other...hugs

I take plaquinel and Arava (Leflunomide ). It really helps my inflammation.

Make sure to get the generic formula of Arava. Even generic it's $300 for 90 days worth if you're in the donut hole of your insurance.
