Feeling really, really stressed today, so am having horrible carb cravings. Fortunately, don't have any in the house, so as long as I can stay out of the car, I'm relatively safe. Unfortunately, I have a haircut at 2:30, so pray that I can get back home safely without buying any carbs!!! nono

Thanks to y'all, I did not buy/eat carbs yesterday. And now I'm boiling a dozen eggs to keep me in protein! Woo-hoo!

How's everyone doing?

I still had a high-stress day (moving everything out of my very densely packed business office for some much-needed painting, carpeting, and other improvements), so my food was not great, but...

I did NOT binge. So I'm counting it a success.

Hope y'all are hanging in there with good proteins, veggies, and fruits!

Weekend check in:

Vitamins - check

I think I'm going into a flare, so I've been pretty much living on tea and toast for breakfast lunch and dinner this weekend. No appetite at all. The good thing is I'm not wanting to snack, but the bad thing is I'm not getting any protein.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and y'all have been able to eat healthy.

Did not do so well this past weekend. But I plan on getting back to a better schedule/diet starting tomorrow. I honestly do find that it helps!

Good News, my diet for the past 3+ weeks has been stellar. All lean proteins and veggies and zero cheat foods.

My rheumy said a Gluten Free diet could help me. I'm not celiac, but she said it could cut down on inflammation. so, that's what I've done...

Bad news, I've pretty much been sick to my stomach the whole time, either due to my body trying to process so many vegetables, or still getting used to Plaquenil? Also, I have lost zero weight in those 3 weeks. It's just hard to believe given how upset my stomach has been and how little bad food as gone in...

so, I'm frustrated and ready to go back to all the unhealthy food, since carbs make my stomach feel great!

How are you feeling other than being nauseous, is your inflammation and energy level good? Maybe you should add a few carbs back and see how you feel.

Other than the stomach problem, I am feeling pretty darn good. Very minimal joint pain, almost no fatigue, high energy level, no fevers. pretty much my only complaint is the stomach cramping/nausea.

I think I'm going to add in some non-gluten carbs. I think that's going to be my next step... I like that suggestion!

Hi Ladies. For several days I have had more energy than the past 6 months. It's not great, but it sure is significant. Also more food is appealing to me.
I'm answering Lynnwood's and Melissa's suggestions. As for what Hubby prepares they are "unusual" Mexican dishes he developed and even without spices I couldn't choke most down. Protein drinks, yuck. Raw veggies get thrown out. A few frozen meals are in the freezer and don't appeal either. Sliced ham: For ten years the only meat I ate was fish. Then I added bird and since Lupus I've added some cow. You can tell by my writing that it's an animal thing. I haven't eaten pig in 25 years. One more barrier is that I must limit gluten. Too much and diarrhea visits. This is sad, but I'm so addicted to yogurt that I take Lactase every time I eat it. Too much dairy, diarrhea. BUT a tuna sandwich on my GF bread sounds good! Yea!
Now for exercise: Rheumy won't let me walk because my right knee is ruined, R hip bursitis, osteoarthritis completely down my spine (it's hurting very badly as I'm writing this. After I quit running for 20 years I continued to stretch and when I touch my toes I can still place my hands flat on the floor. I did yesterdaysmile During the past six months I rarely drove because I get cobwebs in my brain and confused. So that plus no energy = no arthritis swim class. Melissa Ahha! 15 minutes of chair yoga sounds good and I am going to look at YouTube! I really appreciate the effort and time both of you took to help me and even a couple of great ideas are great for me! Love Ya, Butterflake

I do like this thread so I'm contributing a simple dessert I learned at Weight Watchers:
Buy a few of your favorite apples.
Core them (you can buy an apple corer bout anywhere)
Peal the tops, rub the tops with a little brown sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour
Grab one out of the fridge and reheat!

I have a weird sleep schedule due to insomnia so I don't call my meals by normal names....

1st meal-ok
2nd meal-good
3rd meal-naughty
I did get a healthy snack of fruit in, though.

I'm doing this three-day cleanse starting tomorrow...Basically 3 days of fruit and veggie smoothies to help rid the body of toxins. If anybody wants to join me, let me know! (I'm not affiliated with this or making any money off it. I have no idea if it'll work/help, but I think it's worth a shot)

Plaquenil is all I'm taking right now, and it's still only been 20 days since I started it. I understand it takes a while, so I figured I'd get my body as healthy as I can while I let it start working.

I've been doing really poorly - stress eating due to my home being in uproar. Painting and new carpeting going in. Nothing is where it belongs. Some would say now is the time to eat better, but... that certainly isn't how it's working out. shocked

Lynnwood, I hope you are feeling better, hope your able to reduce your stress and remember when you started the process of renovation you were committed to taking things slowly as to not let it get to you. I know it has definitely got to be easier said than done, I've been through plenty of renovations myself, we do a project every year. And every year it's huge stressor.

As for my eating habits, I am not renovating and have no excuses and I have not had a good weekend. It's just plain lack of focus, motivation and self control. My son and his family came in town Friday, so the day started out by me knowing I wasn't going to cook. Not a good thing. Saturday I went out of town to visit my daughter and another day of eating out.

Sunday, I'm back home, but exhausted from all the visitors and traveling and not energy to cook so I started my morning off with prepackaged breakfast bars. My joints are screaming at me; I know good and well as much as it's my disease it's also my own doing with what I put in my body.

Ran up to DC for a 3-day weekend, where relatives eat much more, much more often, and much more richly than we usually do! I think I gained at least 10 lbs this weekend -- haven't checked scale yet! lol (Got caught in the Delta airlines snafu - was supposed to be home 15 hrs ago but just got in.)

All that's in the fridge is water, vegs & fruits, so that's what I'll be eating next!

Agh. No success. Starting over, one more time!

At least I've done 3 weeks of taking my vitamins successfully, after not taking them for over a year. Today I will count out a few more weeks and put into my pill minder containers.

I am at my heaviest weight EVER. (I was on the light side until well into my 40's when Lupus and that nasty prednisone came along.)

Today I discussed with my friend at the gym how to substitute good stuff for bad. Tricks like substituting carrots (orange and crunchy) for one of my carbs (an orange, crunchy carb). Sounds silly, but at this point any suggestions sound worth a try!

How is everyone else doing? Eating Well helps us Heal Well!

Continue to take vitamins daily, breakfast goes well, lunch is usually a crap shoot unfortunately, I do better at dinner lately because I've been fixing dinner for my husband and I. I've been able to keep from snacking for the most part and if I do I grab a piece of fruit.

There's still room for improvement without doubt.

Day 2 of restarting...

Day 1 - B, okay but lunch was sad.
Day 2 - B, okay, but again lunch was sad.

Like you, Melissa, it's my hardest meal. I can do eggs & fruit for breakfast, dinner is protein, veggies, and fruit with another person. Lunch, by myself, ugh. Shouldn't be this hard! Today it was a couple of slices of cheese and a drink that won't be mentioned.

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing with their eating? I'm actually doing fairly well with my diet, I did a lot of cooking this week, meals have been balanced, managed not to snack. Which is good because I have been in a flare and my joints have been red and swollen, so I really needed to be diligent this week. While I'm not a 100%, I am feeling a little better, the swelling is down a little and I've dropped 2 pounds which I attribute to fluid retention.
