Hope everyone is doing well. So, I have for the first time in my life developed a severe case of dandruff. I bought some coal tar shampoo and was doing some research on line. I came across a warning that states you should contact your doctor of you have lupus prior to using. I did some additional research but the results weren't clear on the rationale for not using. Of course, I just gave my Lupus book by Dr. Wallace to my SIL who was recently diagnosed with SLE sad Does anyone know why there is a warning? Can anyone recommend a product that will eliminate it? Thanks!

Yikes!

I have no idea why that would be an issue, but I don't know much about the coal tar shampoos. Maybe they are just too strong for us?

I get infected hair follicles in my scalp (courtesy of Lupus) and have used Head and Shoulders Dandruff Shampoo for that. Also have used a 50/50 mix of Betadyne/Shampoo at the dermatologists recommendation. And then there is the prescription liquid steroid to spot-treat the infections.

I don't know if any of those will help your issue, but you might try them. And maybe ask a dermatologist about the dandruff - it may be something more than the average person's dandruff issue.

Let us know!

Thanks Lynnwood! I did some additional digging and the coal tar shampoo can increase sun sensitivity. I am wondering if that's the issue although it's winter in Michigan so the sun shouldn't be an issue! I have my annual skin check coming up so I'll mention it to the dermo, great suggestion!
