Yes, that can happen. Actually, almost anything can happen! Remember, you have an overactive autoimmune system that gets really confused. So it can attack any normal body function, thinking that it is an invading bug of some kind. The result can be almost any kind of swelling, pain, inflammation, or other abnormality you can think of.
It can become very difficult to figure out what is from the Lupus and what is something else actually going on. Eventually you begin to learn your own bodies reactions and you can tell the difference, but it takes 2-3 years before it all makes sense.
