Hello everyone
I'm usually on the crohns site since I've had crohns for 7 years now. But here recently I've developed symptoms that are very much like lupus. I've been on remicade for 2 years now. My pcp dr has referred me to neurologist (whom I see tomorrow) and rheumatolagist...still waiting on appt. In the meantime prednisone has been added to my long list of meds. Its at least helping to keep down the inflammation and severe pain. I was in ER 3 times in less than 2 weeks due to severe pain. I'm suppose to go in for remicade infussion next week but if this is drunk indused lupus shouldn't I stay away from remicade? My gi dr insists I go in for infussion. I certainly don't need my crohns to flare up too.

Although I've had Lupus for 20+ years, I'm not that familiar with how drug induced Lupus is treated. I would probably follow the directions from your GI Dr, but push for the consult with the Rheumatologist and switch to following the Rheumy's directions as soon as possible. You'll need to find Drs that work together!

Best wishes

After further evaluation it has been determined that I have lupus not drug induced lupus. So they are keeping me on remicade. My next infusion is not until June 8th. And I'm now Javon a lupus flare. It is affecting my hands and lower legs and headache

Bucko,

That is very unusual. If you have Lupus, they tend to avoid Remicade as it aggravates the disease. Are you under the care of a Rheumatologist?

A more standard treatment is Plaquenil, which inhibit disease progression and thus protects you from organ involvement. If you are having disease activity (inflammation), Prednisone is used to treat short-term inflammations.

For more severe inflammations, Dr generally go to either Imuran, Cellcept, or MTX -- it's unknown which of those might work for any individual patient, so it's trial and error. Imuran did nothing for me, but Cellcept put me into remission.

I have been on remicade for 2 years for crohns disease. Back in February I had a bad lupus flare and when I got my remicade infusion the symptoms were almost gone. My rheumatologist said he uses remicade to treat lupus. I got a referral for a second opinion rheumatologist
