Does anyone in here experience twitching with their muscles?  Mine started twitching about 1 1/2 yrs. after I was diagnosed with lupus and it seems to be getting worse/spreading with time.  It's been 10 yrs. since I was first diagnosed.  It was first just in my right arm by my elbow.  Now both arms twitch, sometimes my thighs and different areas on my face at different times.  It's not very obvious unless you are up close looking at me and they (my muscles) don't twitch all the time.  They only twitch sometimes and sometimes they are twitching alot stronger than other times.  I notice that when I'm calm and relaxed, for ex. when I have just woken up, it doesn't or is hardly twitching, but when I am nervous or angry they twitch so much that I would just rather stay home and take a sleeping pill so I can relax and wake up and be normal again.  I think one of my doctors told me before that it might be my nerves causing it.  As soon as I get insurance, I am going to go see a neurologist about it and see what they think.  If they can stop it I will jump for joy.  Please let me know what you think and know.  Thanks a bunch!

Hi Sariah, I'm sorry you have to deal with this stuff. Yes I have had it happen to me on a number of occasions. It hasn't happened lately but it's common enough that if it started 5 min. from now I wouldn't be surprised. There are so many things that can cause muscle twitching. Lupus fibro, RLS. I wonder if the doctor gave you somthing for RLS if it would help with your muscle twitching even though it's not in your legs? I don't know i'm just thinking out loud here. If you are waking up feeling tired I would think you aren't getting enough RIM sleep because of the twitching. The doctor said stress can cause it too. Did he give you anything for that? I think you should really push the issue with your doctor and tell them that it is really having a bad effect on you and they need to try somthing.

Let us know how it goes

God Bless

Sariah, I'm like Carol and have had the twitching before too. I don't know if you have been put on any different meds since the twitching started, but I have found that some of my meds caused the twitching to be worse and I had one med that caused tremors bad enough that I had to quit taking it. Like you, I find the twitching gets worse when I am stressed or irritable. Those are the times I wish I had something xanax to take because when my brain goes on overload, it's very hard for me to get to a calm, relaxed state again. My brain just doesnt work the same way it did prior to lupus.

Hopefully your doc can help with this and maybe figure out the cause. It stinks to have these new symptoms and to not know what is causing them.

Hang in there and take care.

I get twitching often too. It happens a lot right above my wrist leading to my thumb and its more annoying than anything. I get the eyelid twitching too and sometimes my back even. If you can get answers as to the cause, please share. It drives me crazy at times. :-)
