Hi Amy,
Well, it really differs from person to person.  A lot depends on how much water you retain while on the high doses.  So each person will notice it at different amounts. But I think most people see a change around 10mg or less.  That is because you're entering the amount of cortisol that the body makes naturally, (5-7mg).
I notice the puffiness start to go away when I'm at 10mg or under.  If I've been on 5 or 6 mg for a long time, and then all of a sudden I"m up to 10mg I notice a change in my face and overall weight about 3 weeks into the higher dose.
So, my best advice is to drink lots of water.  It will help with the water weight and puffiness.  20mg is still considered a high/moderate dose, so I wouldn't expect to see much change until you drop further.
Hope this helps!

Amy, I agree with what ginny told you. I don't think you'll see many changes until you get closer to 10mg or below. I notice that I get really puffy and round at anything over 10mg and I'm moderately puffy and round when I'm at 7.5-10. My goal and my rheumy's goal is to get to a 5mg maintainence dose, but I haven't been able to do it yet. I'm in the process of a very slow taper right now which will hopefully help me successfully get to 5mg.

I hope your tapering goes well - I know how frustrating the prednisone side effects can be.

Take care

Hi Amy, bless your heart you've been on some pretty high doses for quite a while. It will take time like the others said. I don't usually notice it if I am on 10mg. but 5mg. is my "quality of life dose". Good luck with the taper and congratulations on getting down as far as you have! that's wonderful news. Don't worry about the puffy stuff it will go away. Just think about how great you are doing. I'm proud of ya keep it up!
God Bless
