Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I really had no way to contact anyone. A week ago last monday morning I got to ride in an ambulance to the ER. 9 days later I came home. That's was this afternooon. So what happened was I had abscessed pneumonia splattered all over my lungs. The first week I was there my temp was 103 and I didn't even know who I was talking to. They have me on IV steroids and I was so sick I kept loosing weight because I was too sick to eat.

There's a lot more to tell ya but I will save it for a day or two until I'm feeling stronger. My brother had to carrry me in the house I'm like rubber. People weren't allowed to touch me in my hospital room and I have to wear a mask. I am not really allowed to go anywhere including the doctors except at 9 am and 1 pm. Those are the time when people with labs  come in because she does not want me to get around anyone sick. Please continue to keep me in your prayers. I don't have a lot of strength right now for another battle.

talk to you soon

love and prayers

Oh Carol.... I'm praying for you sis.  I'm so sorry you went through this.  I know what it's like to have a temperature so high you don't know what is going on or even who you are.  I had a fever of 105 and was on I.V. steroids too when I had that medication allergy in June.  I also know what it's like to feel like rubber. No strength whatsoever. I lost 20 pounds in one week at the hospital because the rash was in my mouth, down my throat, in my stomach, intestines, bowels. It attacked my liver.  Brutal.

I'm just so happy to know you're home and that you will be okay.  It will take time though.  From experience, don't be surprised if you start to lose your hair in about a month.  Gosh, you and I went through very similar things here.... Um, I started losing my hair a month after I got home.  I mean in clumps.  My doctors all told me it was because my body went through a major trauma, and as a result, the body will shed its hair.  Very common, just wanted to forewarn you that it might happen to you too.  It's growing back now.  I have inch long pieces that stick straight up all over my head.  Quite funny! No, not really....

You might have little setbacks in your health.  Your lupus might flare, etc.  What dose of prednisone are you on now?  Don't be in a rush to taper down on that by the way.  Were you on about 125mg in the hospital?  My docs tapered me too fast and screwed me up big time.  So go easy on the taper.

Just get all the rest you can.  You're going to be recovering for a long time.  I'm just barely coming out of my recovery, and my reaction happened in late June.  Major traumas to the body like what you and I had are very serious.  It will take time for your body to adjust.  But you will!!! Keep the faith!  If you need to talk, email me.  We've gone through similar things here.  Reading your post was like reading part of my own experience. ((((Hugs))))).

Carol,

I am so sorry to hear of your struggle right now.  Please know that you are more than a conquerer through Jesus Christ, and God will see you through this trial.  Continue to be strong, and continue to never give up.  I am praying for you for health and healing.  I know we all are.

Love and blessings...

Yeah, gotta love the rubber room people. Creepy, huh? I was waiting for the bubble to appear. So glad to see you got outta there, even though it doesn't sound like you are feeling much better. Sounds like a complicated pneumonia. I will definitely pray for you and I send you lots of hugs. Hopefully you'll get better and it will be just another war story for the books.

Rest and be well - Love ya, Kris

Carol, I was really really worried about you and I guess I had good reason to be. I just had a really bad feeling that you had gotten very sick. It sounds like you are still not out of the woods and that you have to be super careful. It was a relief to see a post from you, but my heart broke when I read about how sick you had gotten. Please, please take care of yourself. I hope your brother can help some and that maybe some of your church family can bring some food by, as long as they are not sick. Lots of love, Hippi

Hi Bab's, hipppi, ginny, kris, 4mylife, lupus fighter, thank you sooooooo much fo responding. I had to go out in the rqin today and I am really taking it easy tonight. I really didn't have a choice in the matter. When I got sick it was the end of the month so of course my bills all HAD to be paid now or risk paying late fees. Some things I was able to do by computer but other things I just had to get out and do them. Plus I left my cell phone charger at the hospital sao I had to go get that. Fortunately I say I did alot but the truth is I sat in the van and my brother did most of the running in and out of places for me. I had scripts to pick up and insurance payment to drop off. I had a fridge full of food that went bad and my bro got it all together and out to the road for me. I leaned into the grocery cart to move around and pick up some easy cooking stuff by the time we got back here I tried to carry one lousey little bag of groceries in the house and had to set it down so I could use my arms to pull myself up the steps to the house. I'm measuring my energy level by tsb.spoonfuls rightnow.

Right now  am starting over on my plaquenil because I was on so much meds they weren't giving it to me almost the whole time I was in hospital. Don't know if that was on purpose or in error but I had to stat over again. Hopfully it doesn't take another 6 months to stat working like before.

I guess I should give someone my # so at least I have a contact if this happens again. There were a few times I could have used an encoraging word. but I knew yu were out there and I really wasn't alone.

Ginny, thanks for the heads up. right now my hair is realy nasty. Between laying inbed and sweating and stuff I have knots all over my hair. There is no way i have the energy to shower and try to comb it out yet. Maybe in a couple of days. As for the predisone I was on I think 160 in hospital but she dropped it to 30 mil. the day before I came home. So Now she has me one 30mil. taper for 3 days and than 20ml. taper for 5 days and 10mil. for what seems to be about a 2 months supply. There was a totaly of 70, 10 mg. pills so it's a little confusing.

If anyone would like to email me please feel free. I would really like that. I think it's gonnna be awhile before I can really get back in the swing of things here. My PCP was really pushing me to get into to the rheumy again but I just can't take that trip right now. Maybe the first of the year.

Even if I don't post I will still try to get by here and read what everyone is up to.

you all be good for goodness sakes cause santa claus is coming to town!

love ya

Carol,

Thank you for taking the time for an update when you are feeling so poorly.....(((Gentle Hugs))). I hope you won't have to get out the next few days and can rest and recover. Let everyone there take care of you so you can build your strength back up.

Oh Brother, well at least you got some things out of the way. Sounds like heavy lifting and I hope you stay focused on your health. I'll pray for some help for you. Serious stuff that pneumonia. As you know, take your time and we will all be here for you when you can reach out. Thanks for keeping us up to date, but I rather see you well. You know us, we will hunt you down if we don't hear from you in a while and get worried:) Hugs - Kristin

Hi, Carol,

Thanks for the update on how you're doing.  I know it's a struggle to try and maintain when you're sick. God bless your brother for being there.  Hopefully you were able to get it all done, and now you can get some rest, relax, and concentrate on feeling better.  Here's lots of hugs and kisses to you!!!  Take care, and stay encouraged!

Hi everyone, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I wish I had better news but I was still so weakened when I got home from the hospital I picked up a virus. I had diareah and vomiting coming out of me for about 12 hours straight. There was no one here to help me and I was to weak to do anything about it. I passed out/fell asleep I'm not sure off and on even than I was dreaming I was throwing up and stuff. To top it off we got hit by a ice storm. I truly beleive if it had not been for those praying for me and keeping my power from going out I would quite possibly have laid on the floor and died. I was so dehydrated I tried to get somthing in me but in 36 hours I think (it's all fuzzy) I got one coke and one cracker in me. It took me until this afternoon to drag myself into the shower and wash all the (stuff) off of me. I finally was able to get a little soup in me today. I am really worried though. I can't get any of my meds down. I mean I can't even look at them. I am really worried that I'm gonna relapse. I don't want to have to go in the hospital for iv drips. well hopfully in a couple days I'll feel good enough to get back on my meds without throwing up.

thoughts and prayers

Carol, I'm really very concerned about you and think you need to get back to the hospital. I know there is a lot of ice and you couldn't drive, but you can call the ambulance. You are way too sick to be trying to fight this on your own at home. Please call the ER and see if they think you need to come in. I'm praying for you. Love, hippi

Hi Carol, So sorry I missed this topic sis. You really need to get ahold of your doctor and let her know how sick you are. They can give you nausea meds so you can take your meds. You can't just stop taking the prednisone . . . it can really mess up your adrenal glands and can be life threatening. CALL doc ASAP or go to ER. Sending you a pot of special tea to help you feel better. Blessings!

(((Carol))) I'm so sorry you've been so sick.  I think Hippi is right that an ER visit so they can drip some fluids (and phenagren) into you would be a great idea. I hope that's what you did.  Please let us know how you are when you're up to it!  Love, Donna

Hi all, well no I didn't go back to the hospital. I just couldn't bring myself to do that. The good news is I'm actually beginning to feel better. I am stilll not able to get much food down but I can afford to loose a few lbs. I did start back on the pred. even though I was only taking 10mg. instead of the 30 the doctor ordered. The biggest problem I have had with that has been all my muscles and joints have been inflammed. I decided to heck with saving money on my heating bill and turned up the heat to 74 and slept with a heating pad. That really has made a lot of difference. I have a lot of sores in my mouth and I can only eat soft things like beef broth or chicken noodles. but heck at least I'm keeping it down and I am feeling much better. I havn't been able to clean much but I did go around the house with a spray can of lysol and killed off a lot of germs. I need to stay away from other people for awhile until i get some immune system back. Well anyway I can't guerantee I won't have some bad days mixed in here but for right now I am thankful I feel as good as I do.

ok just checking in

love ya

Hi Carol:

Sorry I've not posted lately. I'm sorry that you've been so sick, and I am glad to hear that you seem to be on the mend. It sounds like you've been drugged through the ringer. I'm so sorry that I don't live closer to you to be of some help. Know that I'm praying for you as always and sending lots of healing vibes your way. Please take care of yourself and let us know when you feel up to it how you're doing. Wishing you the best as always.

Carol!!!! sad sad sad I've been absent for a while and am so sorry to hear how dreadfully ill you've been. It's a relief to read in your last post that you're a little bit on the mend. You've no idea how hard it is to think of someone who's so sick having to go through it alone. Does your brother know you've been so sick? I agree with the others who posted that your situation called for an ambulance and a hospitalization. Promise us that if you don't continue to improve you'll get some help. Like Barb, I wish I were close enough to come over and help you or at least get you to the doctor.

I'm glad to hear that you didn't lose power. The ice has really devastated our state and there aren't many of us around here with power. Stay warm and keep sipping hot soup so you'll slowly get your energy back. And Carol, don't hesitate to ask for help. I'm worried about you.

I'll start checking in every day to see how you're doing.

Hugs and prayers for you!

love,

Pat

Carol !! Sorry, I'm just getting to post.  I am so sorry you are sick and have been having such a rough time lately, but I'm glad to know you are doing a bit better.  I pray you continue to get better.  Have you been able to take you additional meds?  Have you been able to eat a little more and keep it down? ...and yes does your brother know you have been this ill, and about this situation?? I know you don't want to have to go back to the hospital. I don't want you to have to there either, but please make sure to go get checked out from this.  Just as everyone has stated, this situation definately called for an ambulance and hospitalization.  Here's sending you lots of love and hugs to get better soon! Barb, prayers and blessings to you too to feel better and get back on the mend.  Sorry to hear you have been sick. Love and blessings... 4mylife

Hi Carol,

Oh man, a lot has happened since I last read your posts... I hope you're back up to the 30mg's of pred that your doc wants you on. nono Please don't make the mistake of tapering down that fast.  You will definitely relapse then.  I'm concerned for you sis.  Reading about your passing out and throwing up really worried me.  Please see a doctor soon.  Just precautionary.

HOw is the home care working out for you?  Hope to hear from you soon,

((((hgus))))
