who came up with the rule that you have to be symptom free for 3 months before coming off antibiotic treatment? has anyone gotten symptom free for three months with antibiotic therapy?

hi Oceanblueskygirl,

That's what I thought too.Don't know who came up with that rule... But my doctor got me off abx after three weeks symptom free. (but I don't believe I'm really symptomfree, because I still have that 'itchy' feeling in my ear sometime) I'm doing herbs now...

My dd is slowly coming off her abx. She had been on them since early April and has been symptom free for about 3 months. Two months ago she started a modified Cowden 's Protocol and is slowly adding in more herbs.
Her dr mentioned at the last visit about wanting to his patients to be symptom free for at least 3 months as there is less chance of relapse.
As for where the rule came from, I don't know, but we are fine with it. Last visit he thought she could come off all abx this time. But when he said he preferred to slowly take her off one at a time, that was good news for me. She had made such wonderful progress, there is no sense in rushing it now only to have a set back.

She is my family's hope that we all can get to have great days like she is! And I hope that for you too.

Oceanblueskygirl - how have you been. I haven't been on in a long time, and it's not cause things have been better. My daughter has gone backwards again and is now positive for Bart. which I always figured she had. And I have started treatment in Sept. and found out I have Mycoplasma along with the bartonella and Lyme.

MarriedtoLymeinNJ - What was your daughter taking for the Bart. and what was the dose (how old is she).  Which doctor does she go to.  My daughter has been on Zithro for over a year and been on Cipro. since Mar. and I don't see that its going anywhere. I am getting very frustrated it has been since 2005 and treatment start 2006, and am starting to wonder if it will ever be over.

Hi Tropicalsun!

Sorry to hear your daughter has been having such a long hard time of it......I am currently on Doxy for Bart, which took me a very long time to get any doc to listen and prescribe.....I have worked in the veterinary field for years, and know that Doxy is actually the drug of choice for Bart.....we have used it successfully for years in kittens and cats with Bart.....has your daughter been on a regimen of Doxy yet?  I know it is an older drug and there are many new antibiotics that may seem better, but sometimes the old ones are really the best choice.....just some food for thought....God BLess!

Thanks for replying everyone.

Tropicalsun -- sorry to hear things with you and your daughter are not good. I was doing better in the summer (a lot better. i had more energy) but then things started going downhill sometime in mid-august. my treatment has been very interrupted. i am on IV doxy twice daily 7 days/week now (100 mgs twice a day).

dia- my bladder is the same (i still get up 5-6 times/night to pee). the bladder is the only real improvement i noticed with rocephin. it's definitely better than it was this time last year but it hasn't improved further since then.
