Hello I am new here. I am 24 years old and from North Jersey. I started having some serious symptoms at the end of May 2008 that sent me to the ER one night. They diagnosed me with Vertigo after taking a quick CT and rushing me out of the hospital. After a day or two on antivert i noticed it wasn't helping and went to see my physician. It is now October and the symptoms have not gone away. Some days they are worse then ever and other are manageable, but they are always present. Those symptoms include:

1. Constant pressure in my head and migraines
2. Sore neck
3. High Sensitivity to light (this is the worst)
4. Muscle Jerks and spasms when at rest
5. Leg and arm fall asleep/numb/tingle

I was blood tested for Lyme 4 times (2 in June and 2 in August) which were negative (not sure what tests the physician used), and I have also had an MRI and a CT that came back negative. I have seen 2 neurologists, an Ear Nose and Throat specialist, I go 3 times a week to the Chiropractor, and seen 2 physicians, all of which have no idea. They told me I suffer from migraines and put me on propranolol (beta blocker) this medicine only gets rid of the migraine whle leaving all of the other symptoms.

I am persistent to believe it is Lyme (because the symptoms fit and I am at risk with ticks b/c I am very active outdoors), and I wanted to know if anyone else here went through a bunch of negative tests prior to being diagnosed with it. It has become increasingly difficult dealing with day to day functions, and this ailment is putting a strain on my relationship with my fiance and my friends (since I can not go out to dinner/drink/stay up late) and it is causing my Graduate School GPA to suffer horribly. My active lifestyle has ceased to exist, and my weight has been steadily increasing because of it. If anyone has any advice, please share it with me. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, sorry you need to be here!! First off; there is no completely accurate blood test for Lyme disease. The most important thing is to see a Lyme knowledgable doctor (LLMD). Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis, a knowledgable doctor will take your symptoms, medical history, blood test, exposure to ticks and other markers to diagnose you with Lyme disease, and other possible coinfections. There are some good LLMD's in Jersey. If you'd like a doctor referal, post a message for seeking a LLMD. Read and learn as much as possible about Lyme, it is a very complex disease. Best wishes. Hope you feel better soon!!
