My LLMD thinks its time for IV Rocephin.  The problem for me is that Lyme has primarly attacked my GI tract and I have had constipation and all the fun things that go with it since it started.  Unfortunately, Antibotics and probiotics only worsen the issue.  Has anyone had issues with constipation and oral ABX but then had success with IV ABX?

Its so bad that my LLMD said we may need to due TPN with the IV ABX.  After some help from another member here, I'm not even sure TPN is going to help in this case.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

my dad had his first dose of rocephin iv tuesday and felt really good-unfortunately were not sure if insurance is going to cover any more(and financial resources are sparse). i know he had constipation prior to that from oral antibiotics, but can't shed any light for you on the effects of iv drugs with that-sorry.good luck to you!

Thanks for the response Cheryl!!!

So insurance only allowed him one IV treatment?  Why would they even bother...that's worse then letting him have it for 2-3 weeks and then yanking it.

In any event, I guess even with that one treatment did he find that he had a "tough time" the next day.  I know with ABX/probiotics, I have issues the very next day.

the hospital that put the picc line in gave him his first rocephin(to ensure there wasn't any reaction)now we are waiting approval from anthem plus he has medicare(just turned 65) so we aren't sure how all this is going to be covered if at all. my mom said on orals he only has abowel movement every 3 days but when he started taking miralax he had alot of improvement. i don't personally know any other lyme patients but in my opinion my dad is really bad. he can no longer walk, has severe muscle wasting and can no longer use his hands. my mom takes total care of him, including feeding and "potty" issues.
take care,cheryl
i wonder how obama would respond to lyme issues?
