I'm trying to decide between 2 LLMD's in NJ. One if Dr. S in Howell, and the other is Dr. E in Flemington.

If anyone has any experience with either of these doctor's, please post or email me.

Thank you!

A Lyme friend of mine is seeing Dr. F in NJ and is very happy with her.

Hi Bella,

I saw Dr. S for about 3 years and really liked him.  He treats aggressively.  The only thing is he is very quiet and it's hard to get information out of him.  If you do your research on your own, it's fine, but if you want a doc to talk to you a lot and really give you advice, you might want to go to Dr. E.  Dr. E also recommends a lot more supplements and diet modification...which can be great, but it can also be a lot more expensive (she sells many supplements through her own office).

I switched from Dr. S eventually because I had more stuff going on and he didn't know much about it.  I'm still not entirely happy with my new doc, but oh well.  I do think Dr. S is great if you're very sick and really just need someone to do some tests and prescribe antibiotics.

Dr S is great. He saved my father-in-laws life and has done a great job with my faimliy (wife and 3 kids). He is compassionate. Don't let the office fool you. He really knows his stuff. You do need to ask him and push for info. He does not want to "force" the lyme diagnosis on anyone as there are still many non-believers outh there.

I see Dr S. in Howell, I like him very much. I was Dx in August and he has me feeling almost myself again. He knows his med's very well.

It is true that he is quite and you need to ask him questions, but any question I have asked him he knew immediately the answers to. He always' calls back also and I like that very much. His staff is very knowledgeable and very kind.

Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to clarify that the Dr. E I'm talking about isn't the female Dr. E in Jackson, NJ, but the male Dr. E in Flemington, NJ.

Hi Saxmar - I sent you an email.

Bella

Thanks, I got the email.  The clarification on Which Dr.E you meant was a good idea.

Well; I might as well jump on the bandwagon and ask about your leaving Dr E as well; if ya could email me - just curious as well!

I never realized it but it seems like either half the people on this forum either live in the NY/ NJ area or else travel a long way to come see docs here.   Is there really that few LLMDs anywhere else?  I am originally from Tennessee and someday might be again, I know I asked about LLMDs in TN and heard there aren't any.....

Dr. F in NJ is by far the best lyme literate doctor. You need to go to her.

Hi LF,

I saw Dr. F for awhile, but I had a hard time getting anyone from her office to ever call me back and honestly, when I did see her she told me I had "residual inflammation" (after 2 months on abx from another doctor), and that I shouldn't start abx again. I don't buy into the residual inflammation idea (I believe that you treat it until your symptoms are gone, plus 2 months) and the fact that I had only 2 months abx at that point made me wonder why she would think it was only residual inflammation and not an active infection.

I don't mean to take anything away from Dr. F because I know a lot of people like her, but I don't feel that she helped me at all.

I have been to Dr. E in Jackson, and Dr. F (and Dr. G). Both Dr. E and Dr. F are good in their own way. Dr. F really knows her technical abx stuff but doesn't seem to go much farther, Dr. E in Jackson leaves no stone unturned with abx plus going herbal, vitamin, HBOT and diet. I am with Dr. F now because she is so much closer to my house and I can do the non-abx stuff myself anyhow at this point.

I am a former patient of Dr. E in Flemington and current of Dr. S in Howell. I too am curious regarding those who might have experience with the two and the reasons for leaving/staying. I could also lend my opinion and info to those equally as curious via jrwoznicki at yahoo

Both Docs E and S are great and have extensive experience in treating lyme. Dr S has been treating longer and is very successful, my recollection is that Dr S used to be one of the most aggressive docs I knew, but became hesitant to use IV (he had been attacked for using IV so often and for so long) and Dr E was a bit more knowledgeable about co-infections. I was a lyme care coordinator at the LymeCare Center in NJ for over 12 years and knew them both well. Personalities are a bit different, but patients did well with both. I was treated by Dr F in W Caldwell, who is brilliant, but comes with challenges. Fortunately, I knew her very well and lived nearby, so I did better than ok. She was very aggressive and did everything right for me. She was expensive, takes a long time to see, etc etc, but I have tremendous respect for her. There's always the Drs. B in Albany and Rhinebeck. It's Too bad we lost so many great docs as a result of the controversy of treating LD aggressively and openly. Glad to see no one is naming names. Protect the one's you have.

I didn't care for Dr. S. I was suffering for 3+ years and couldn't wait to see him, took a day off work, drove an hour and was in and out in 15 minutes. I couldn't hear him, he offered nothing other than a dx. and never looked me in the eye. I need more compassion. Whether he is a good dr. or not, I didn't get to that point. I will say I was bedridden with severe chest pains and irregular heart beat two weeks into rx. and he returned my call and was very abrupt on the phone. I need to be able to relate and converse with a doctor rather than try and pull words out of his mouth. However, he did run all tests and find co-infection although did not run lyme? when only lyme test I had was negative lab corp. Guess it depends on personal preference.
