I went for my first acupuncture treatment last week. The acupuncturist said that she wants to "rebalance my central nervous system". She said that it is imbalanced due to Lyme and seems to think a lot of my symptoms are coming from that.

So, my question is, do you think that it would make sense that the vibrations (in throat, chest, legs, etc.) could be coming from an imbalanced CNS?

I'm confused as to what symptoms would or would not relate to the CNS and want to make sure my acupuncturist knows what she is talking about before I spend a small fortune on her.

Thanks!

Bella:
My understanding is that if your CNS is involved, that means that spirochetes have infected your brain, causing encephelitis (sp?) From all I have read, the only way you are going to get that to go away is with something that crosses the blood brain barrier well.

Hi Jginkc,

Would encephalitis show on an MRI or CT Scan? I've had both recently and nothing showed up.

Not necessarily. From what I understand, a SPECT scan is more helpful for Lyme encephalitis.

Yes, MRI often do not pick up on abnormalities. I had an MRI done in March 2007 that was normal. In May 2007 I had my first SPECT scan showed moderate vasculitis throughout my brain. Thankfully it was much better a year later.

I had no idea that the MRI wouldn't show anything. I got mine primarily to rule out causes for my vertigo, but both my MRI and CT scan were normal except for sinus polyps.

Hopefully when I see my new LLMD, I can get a script for a SPECT scan.

Bella,

Did you ever have an ENG test for your vertigo?  I just had one and am waiting to hear the results.  I had a clear MRI and my next step is Lyme testing.  Just wondering if you had an ENG for vertigo and what the results were.  I'm a little anxious to rule some things out!

I've never understood why no physician wants to order SPECT's. The behave as if MRI and CT are the only two brain imaging technologies.

Hi Marylandgirl,

I didn't have an ENG, but I saw an ENT who told me that my vertigo wasn't coming from my ears. I believe it is from Lyme.
