my llmd just added plaquenil to my treatment and upon reading about it i find that it is an immunosupressant.Isnt the goal to boost your immunity to fight this evil bug?The last thing it seems i would want to do is to open myself up to every other oportunistic infection when i cant get rid of the one i have.Im sick enough as it is.Any thoughts?should i take it or not and why would he give this to me?

I didnt know that either...maybe that is why it really helps other drugs work so well.  There are many studies about how anti-inflammatory drugs help antibiotics tremendously.  My doctor wants to put me on it too, soon.  I guess, anything for a while.  Hope this helps.

Hi m3369.  Plaquenil is often prescribed because it can help antibiotics work more efficiently.  It is also an anti-inflammatory.  Many Lyme doctors prescribe it, so don't worry.

What other meds are you taking?
