One thing to help deal with stress from surgery is a Bach Floral Remedy called Rescue Remedy. You can apply it topically to your temples & wrists, or take drops under your tongue, or put drops in a glass of water to sip on. It helps with stressful situations, and I was using it recently to help with pain from a surgical procedure and it did help. You can get Rescue Remedy online or in some health food stores, and I've even seen it in some drug stores.
I also went through wisdom teeth extraction surgery without using traditional pain medications. I used homeopathic remedies instead, and the surgeon was quite impressed with how quickly and how well I healed. Starting the night before surgery, I took homeopathic Phosphorus (for bleeding, specifically for tooth extraction-related symptoms), homeopathic Arnica (for shock & pain), and homeopathic Hypericum (for nerve pain, specifically for pain from tooth extraction). I repeated these three the morning of the surgery. Then, after surgery, I rotated through the same remedies as often as needed (can be taken every 5 minutes if necessary). By the second day, my pain was significantly decreased, and it was gone by the 3rd day. The bleeding stopped the first day. By the 4th day, you wouldn't know I had had the teeth extracted (two of them were impacted, so it wasn't a simple teeth pulling). My Brother did not do the homeopathy and he had a significantly more difficult recovery from his wisdom teeth surgery.
