I'm about to start this and I'm worried about the gallbladder issue.  I've never had issues with my gallbladder before, but after much online research it seems a fair number of people had gallbladder issues or even had to have their gallbladder out.   If anyone can share their IV Rocephin experience, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hi Chris-I was on Rocephin for 6 months Oct 2007-April 2008. Before I had the line put in the doctor made me have an gallbladder ultrasound to make sure it was all clear. I was also put on Actigall along with the Rocephin. In April I had what I now know was a gallbladder attack and ended up in the ER. They did a ultrasound and sure enough I had stones.

My LLMD said to stay on the Actigall and it should take care of the stones. He also took me off Rocephin. Anyway, the surgeon felt I should still have it out so I had surgery in June and there were no stones in it. So I am assuming the Actigall dissolved the stones while I was off Rocephin and the surgery was probably unecessary.

I am hoping to have another round of Rocephin when I see my LLMD next month. I am not sure anything will prevent the stones if they are going to form.

Thanks Kim!

Some of what I read was that if you stop the Rocephin there is a good chance the stones go away.   It would stink to have the Rocephin work well and then develop stones.

Ironically, I have read a handful of experiences of people getting there GBs removed only to find out there were no stones.  I'm starting to think GB surgery is another "bread and butter" surgery for some doctors.

Were you pulsing the Rocephin?   Dr. Burrascano's guideliness recommend 4 days one 3 days off for treatment.  That seems like a smart approach on many accounts.  It would help with the potential bile sludging, potential yeast overgrowth, and it may stop some of the lyme from going into cyst form.   I'm going to ask my doctor about this method.

Chris-I did the Rocephin 7 days a week. If I go back on next month I am not sure how Dr. H has it done. Yeah, I was pretty upset when I found out the stones had either passed or dissolved on their own. I should have had another ultrasound done before the surgery but I trusted the surgeon when he said it must be removed. And on top of it I had to stop the only abx that has worked for me.

I had a great PICC and had no problems at all with it and they took it out cause I couldn't continue on the Rocephin.

Hopefully Dr. H will okay me going on it again. It was my miracle drug and I felt so good the entire time I was on it well except for the first couple of weeks. I was so sad to have the line removed. Good luck..

I did 5 months of Rocephin without any gb problems. There is medication like actigall that can help with this. Also some olive oil and braggs apple cider vinegar taken orally daily.

I had 10 weeks no trouble. 7 days a week. I followed an ETREMELY low fat diet and my LLMD at that time said that was the most important factor is preventing the issue.

Hi Chris L.  I did not have any problems when I was on Rocephin.  I infused it five days a week to prevent any problems, and my gallbladder was not affected.  You may want to talk with your doctor about this.

Are you on an oral antibiotic also?

Hey Ticker!

That's more good news. I'm Ceftin right now and I barely tolerating that. For some reason, ABX are worsening my constipation. My Doc thinks that IV will help bypass my digestive system and give me a better shot of getting meds into my system.
