Hi Folks: Can anyone tell me if Lyme and co-infections affect the mitochondria? I was reading about mitochondrial diseases and it is SO familiar. Anyone know? thanks  D

Yes, Lyme can be associated with damage to mitochondria and/or mitochondrial malfunction:

A player on the Tampa Bay Rays Major League Baseball team is suffering with mitochondria issues.  During the World Series they talked about him and all the pills he takes and the fatigue and other symptoms that sure sounded like Lyme to me.

I believe his name is Rocco Barbelli.

Upon doing research I ran across this article just days ago. This article addresses mitochondrial issues related to cancer. The author of the article is hinting that cancer might be caused by a microbe that gets in to our cell. Since Lyme patients are dealing with the Lyme microbe and its coinfections and it is known that these microbes can be found in our cells, I found there was a connection within this article to Lyme disease. I might be way out there but I found this article to be very interesting. I hope you will too!! http://www.new-cancer-treatments.org/Theory/CancerTheory.html

Dr. H in NY gives his patients NT FACTOR for mitochondrial function. I think you can google it or there is a website for it.
