I am having a very hard time writing this right now.
Leslie passed away on Sunday.
Leslie, one of the founders of Lyme Fighters.org (www.lymefighters.org) was truly a blessing to so many.  Leslie and Tracie have done more for Lyme Disease than anyone I have ever met.
Leslie's number one goal, even when she could not get out of bed, was to help those infected get to the right doctor.  She always lifted me up when I felt discouraged and we would often end our conversation with "we are going to get those ??@@?!!!  She always made me laugh with her go getum' attitude!
She dedicated her life to Lyme Disease.
I will miss her terribly.  I had just heard from her Saturday night and then she was gone.
I am speechless.
To find out more about this very courageous selfless beautiful human being, please visit www.lymefighters.org.  Her sister Tracie, has dedicated a part of the site to her sister, and whether you know Tracie or not, she will need all of our support now.
There will only ever be one Les!! I love you kiddo! Miss you terribly, I am not sure what we are all going to do without you but it was because of you that so many had hope and why so many will continue to fight this disease!

I had never looked at that site before, but it looks like Leslie was a tremendous person and a strong advocate for lyme patients.  I'm so sorry for your loss and for others who knew her well.  Her site looks very informative and I'll probably be using it more often now.
If you don't mind talking about it, do you know if she died directly from tick-borne illnesses, or from complications from lyme, from treatment, etc.?  There are so many stories out there like hers that people just don't hear about -- we're always told lyme can never be fatal.  I don't mean to scare people, but it CAN kill you if left untreated, mostly because it leads to so many other problems with the body's immune system, nervous system, heart, etc.  So read up and stick with your treatment plans everyone!
Anyway, sorry again, Robin, and try to focus on the positive -- what she contributed to your life and the lives of others with lyme.
Lyme and co-infections since approximately 2002. Diagnosed in 2005. Treated for two years solid. Diagnosed with Lymphomatoid Papulosis in October 2007. Currently back on abx.

Thanks Alfers,

If you have a chance, please go watch this video of her.  She was my buddy, my support system. She was everything that the Lyme Disease community needed and now she is gone and I am really pissed about it.  http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=jKqAGtubD3M

I left a message yesterday for Tracie to call me so I know definitely what happened.  Leslie was sick for years before a diagnosis. The way I am understand it is she died from Lyme but that is only by what Tracie has on her voicemail and the website. I want to talk with Tracie but she is a mess and then I left her a message and by the time I was done leaving it, I was sobbing.  Leslie was the best!  I will keep you posted.  Yes, their website is the best one out there.  Alot the website was done by Tracie because Leslie was so sick.  They definitely do not hold back on there either.  They speak the truth on there!  Tracie sent me a taping of a radio show she did and I must have listened to it 10 times.  Very humble people though.  Leslie probably got hundreds of people into the right doctors.  Minnesota has such a high number of people infected (sad thing is like most people, they do not even know they have.)

(My cardiologist FINALLY admitted to me that a young girl came in with heart block, it was because of a tick bite.  17 years old and almost died.  You know what I say?   DUH. What is it going to take but at least he is more open to listening to me vent now.  I think when I was first bitten and had the skipping beats, pounding heart,  he thought I was creating my own anxiety.  (If doctors do not know what they are looking for, how in the world will they ever find it?")

I wrote to you about Dr. S. a while back but you know me, I am always sending your e-mails to the wrong address! lol! The girl went to see him and received her results yesterday.  She tested pos. for L.D. and babesia.  Now, what is horrible is she tested pos. last January, the doctor never gave her the results, was tested by another doctor, that came back negative, tested pos with Dr. S through Igenex and now she is another victim to the craziness of this infection but the good news is she starts treatment today.  I need to talk with you soon! I miss you, just so darn busy with work, trying to keep the house afloat, doggy, kitties etc.  I am going now. I am going down to visit my dad before work today.  Let's catch up soon sweetie!

Hi Robin,
It was because of you that I talked to Leslie via e-mails and she was a beautiful person with a big heart who wanted to help my friend even though she was suffering so much herself.   She will never be forgotten.
It's all about the Immune System mixed with a large dose of Positive Thinking...
This song is about my years with chronic lyme and being in remission for over 2 years:

I am also very upset to hear about Leslie passing away.  She was a wonderful, compassionate woman and an amazing advocate for Lyme.  Despite being very sick, she helped everyone who needed it.  She will be greatly missed.  My heart goes out to Tracie and her family.

Dear Robin, So sorry to hear the news. My sympathies and condolences to her family and friends. I'm sure she is now in heaven continuing to advocate for the lyme world---but from a higher place and with special access to the Big Guy!! We can take comfort from that. She is no longer ill, she is with her creator, and planning a major Bb *****kicking. She will be missed by all. bablymers mom

Hi Everyone,
AAAAHHHH, so I see that many of you were touched by Leslie too.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments here.
If there is anything we can do, its to support Tracie now.  If you open up their website, go to the home page.  You will see Tracie on the left and Leslie on the right.  Tracie and Les have done such an excellent job on this website, I really do think it is the best one out there. Their hearts were in it.  Now, my buddy Tracie can't be left alone with that website. She is really sick too and will need alot of support.
Leslie had so many complications because she was misdiagnosed for soooooo long.  She had lesions on her spine from the tick borne illness but doctor after doctor would misdiagnose her.
Now I sit and wonder, since I am so pissed that she is gone, what will I do in memory of her?  That's the key here. What can we all do? I think we can start by learning more about what Tracie's mission is.  Find ways to help her, anything at all.
Love to you all,

Leslie was such an important hero in the Brainerd Lyme community as well as nationwide. She's helped so many of my friend's in Crow Wing County and she is very much missed. Our hearts go out to her family and her sister Tracie as they continue to "Fight the Bite".

This video is awesome! Leslie was a wonderful person. I didn't know her but remember her from the UOS video.

This you tube video seems prophetic in that she really felt she lost her life from lyme. Her words really hit home to me.

I hope we can find out what it was that was her final blow. To die so suddenly like that.

It makes me so sad to read things like this. It also scares me so much!

I didn't know Leslie, but she obviously touched many lives and helped many people. Her family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

As twingirl said, I hope we find out what happened to cause her to die so suddenly.
